Essential Functions:

This is the full performance level of paraprofessional accounting work. The Fiscal Clerk is charged with the responsibility of performing all accounting functions for Montgomery County District Court. Duties are to review and verify the work of cashiers and to record, process, maintain, and reconcile financial transactions. Research and resolve discrepancies in control accounts during reconciliations.

Other duties are to provide information to Judges, Supervisors, Clerks, attorneys and defendants regarding payment and refund information both by telephone and mail.

Work is performed under the general direction of a higher-level supervisor who reviews the work for accuracy and adherence to policies and procedures.


Education:

High School diploma (or GED equivalent).


Experience:

Two (2) years of fiscal or accounting work experience.


Note:

A Bachelor's Degree may substitute the required work experience.

A Paralegal/Associates Degree or 60 college credits may substitute the required work experience.

A Paralegal Certificate may substitute one (1) year of required work experience.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of generally accepted accounting and bookkeeping principles and practices.

Knowledge of modern office equipment and machines.

Knowledge of posting and balancing ledgers, preparing trial balances, and reconciling accounts.

Knowledge of accounting procedures.

Skill in accuracy and attention to detail.


Skill in analyzing records, reports, and other business and financial documents and noting details and facts pertinent to the audit assignment.

Skill in organization and time management.

Ability to perform a full range of basic accounting procedures.

Ability to make accurate calculations.

Ability to comprehend and carry out complex instructions.

Ability to use automated data systems, personal computers, and related software.

Ability to maintain accurate records and files.

Ability to work within time constraints and meet fixed deadlines.

Ability to communicate effectively with the public and other court personnel.
