Paint Technician
WACO Aircraft in Battle Creek, MI is the world's only manufacturer of 1930's era biplanes.

Our planes are built by hand, and we are looking for a person to work in our aircraft paint department, assisting with laying out and painting custom paint schemes that are unique with each aircraft.


As an Aircraft Painter, you will be responsible for the preparation, painting, and finishing of aircraft surfaces to ensure they meet quality and safety standards.

Your work will contribute to the overall appearance and protection of aircraft, ensuring they maintain their structural integrity while meeting regulatory requirements.


What you will do:


Surface Preparation:

Inspect surfaces for corrosion, dents, or imperfections, and make necessary repairs or corrections.


Paint Application:

Follow prescribed painting processes and procedures to meet industry standards.


Quality Assurance:

Inspect painted surfaces to ensure they meet quality and aesthetic standards.

Identify and address paint defects, such as runs, sags, or uneven coverage.

Verify color matching and adherence to aircraft specifications.


Safety and Compliance:

Adhere to safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and compliance with aviation regulations.

Properly handle and dispose of hazardous materials, including paint and solvents.


Equipment Maintenance:

Maintain and clean painting equipment, including spray guns and booths.

Report equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs for timely repair.


Documentation:

Complete all required documentation to ensure traceability and compliance.


Additional Duties:

Perform other duties as assigned by management or as necessary to meet the organization's needs.


What we are looking for:


Education:


  • High school graduate or equivalent required; vocational or technical training in aircraft painting is preferred.
  • Paint certification preferred (not required).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in
    aircraft or auto body painting
  • Previous experience as an aircraft painter or in a similar role is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of various painting techniques, materials, and surface preparation methods.
  • Familiarity with aviation regulations and safety practices related to painting operations.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to producing highquality finishes.

General Requirements:

  • Must adhere to company policies.
  • Cleaning, organizing, and maintaining work area per company?s 6S standards.
  • A good eye for color and detail
  • A positive attitude
  • A solid work history with proven reliability
  • Good common sense and problemsolving skills.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and adapt to changing schedules.

Work Environment Requirements:

  • Ability to paint different types of materials (composite, fabric, and sheet metal).
  • Ability to paint using single stage, and two stage enamel techniques.
  • Ability to perform final detailing such as, cut, buff, and wet sand.
  • Ability to identify and correct imperfections in paint according to the company?s quality standard.
  • Ability to use paint tooling effectively and efficiently. Items include spray guns, paint systems, paint booths.
