UPMC Williamsport is seeking a
Clinical Support Specialist. This is an exciting opportunity to provide general administrative support to our nuclear medicine department.

This full-time role will work daylight hours as scheduled (6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) Monday through Friday. No weekends or holidays are required.

The Clinical Support Specialist III, under the general direction of the Manager/Coordinator, is responsible for maintaining operations to include specific support functions or satellite areas.

Performs a broad range of clinical support services with an active customer interface. Serves as a team leader and resource individual to ensure efficient provision of services.


Responsibilities:


  • Maintain office equipment and inform appropriate personnel of service needs.
  • Interact directly with patients, family members, staff members, and healthcare professionals. Problem solve utilizing independent judgment.
  • Utilize computer system to enter, retrieve, edit, and print data as required.
  • Answer work area telephones and triage calls as appropriate.
  • Obtain and input pertinent patient demographic and insurance data, as required, for patient registration and billing. Possess knowledge of preauthorization requirements for imaging procedures.
  • Retrieve or instruct patients to obtain prior images or medical records pertinent for review at the time of testing.
  • Provide general clerical support and serves as a resource individual for imaging support personnel. Possess an indepth knowledge of specific department functions (i.e. Scheduling, mammography screening program, file maintenance, etc.)
  • Maintains and retrieves patient records following hospital / departmental policies governing patient confidentiality.
  • Follow the mandatory reporting procedures for any incident or serious event that did affect or potentially could have affected the clinical care of any patient.
  • Expeditiously compile documentation needed to process patients upon arrival. Prepare departmental reports, forms, and miscellaneous forms as required.
  • Obtain information and schedule examination appointments. Utilize judgment in determining the appropriate level of service based on clinical needs, clarify preauthorization requirements, and furnish preparatory examination instructions and assistance to patients.
  • Maintain inventory and order supplies as required.
  • High school graduate or GED equivalent.
  • 12 months previous experience in the use of computers, patient record maintenance and/or reception is required.
  • Ability to assume a leadership role in the absence of immediate supervision.
  • Indepth working knowledge of Hospital and Radiology Information Systems.
  • Knowledge of thirdparty healthcare coverage and billing requirements.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills are necessary to effectively interact with patients, physicians, consumers, and other healthcare professionals.
