Summary


Hospital Security Sergeant is responsible for operational and administrative planning, organizing, leadership and direction of PHT security activities for the assigned shift, in the absence of the Supervisor.


Responsibilities

  • Assists in the leadership and supervision of all assigned security personnel during the tour of duty to ensure the objectives and responsibilities of the Security Services Department are properly carried out, while conforming to and maintaining the Standards of Excellence.
  • Assists in reviewing and maintaining quality control for all reports submitted by the personnel for their assigned shift.
  • Reviews reports for accuracy, legibility and timeliness.
  • Assists in the preparation and presentations of evaluations, disciplinary actions and counseling for the assigned personnel, in accordance with JHS and departmental policies.
  • Assists in inspections to ensure that all equipment and materials used to maintain security and a safe environment are accounted for and are in operational condition.
  • Represents Security Services for the assigned shift and responds to the requirements of the JHS hospital managers and professional staff, ensuring a JHS hospitalwide safe and secure environment.
  • Reports any and all serious incidents to the responsible managers (Security Director, A.I.C., Vice President, etc.) following JHS notification procedures.
  • Attends scheduled staff meetings with all departmental personnel to discuss and resolve operational and administrative problems to affect a more efficient and economical operation.
  • Recommends and assists in the development and implementation of policies and procedures for the Security Services Department.
  • Assists in the planning and recommendation of future manpower, equipment and material needs of the shift and present proposal to the Director.
  • Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field of hospital security and safety in order to enhance expertise.
  • Seeks out and takes advantage of all available jobrelated training for career and promotional development.
  • Assists in the evaluation of the training requirements for shift personnel, and conducts appropriate onthejob and remedial training.
  • Coordinates overall training needs with the department Training Supervisor to ensure optimum effectiveness of the training program.
  • Supports in action and words the approved policies and procedures of the JHS and the Security Department.
  • Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of the continuous Quality Improvement Plan to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of organizationwide and unit specific, agespecific, safety/security and infection control standards.
  • Assists in providing leadership through planning, organizing, coordinating, continually monitoring and evaluating the quality of services provided.
  • Assists in the allocation of adequate resources, commensurate with authority to assess and improve services provided.
  • Clearly communicates the organization mission and vision to all staff.
  • Ensures staff participation in required education programs and appropriate orientation and training courses to maintain competency in job skills, knowledge and equipment.
  • Ensures that employees respect the rights, privacy and property of others at all times, including the confidentiality of information, according to Administrative Policies and all applicable laws and regulations.

Experience
