Position Summary:

A Quality Control Technician in a compounding pharmacy is responsible for ensuring the safety, efficacy, and quality of compounded medications by conducting various quality control tests and analyses.

This role involves reviewing and approving batch records, performing in-process and finished product testing, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements such as USP standards and FDA regulations.

Additionally, the Quality Control Technician may be responsible for investigating any deviations from established procedures or quality standards and participating in continuous improvement initiatives to optimize the compounding process.

Effective communication skills, attention to detail, and a strong understanding of pharmaceutical compounding and testing techniques are essential for success in this role.


Essential Elements of the Job:


  • Perform visual inspection and various quality control tests and analyses on compounded medications, including inprocess and finished product testing.
  • Label products and perform label checks for accuracy.
  • Review and approve batch records to ensure accuracy and completeness and ensure Good Documentation Practices and protocols are followed.
  • Maintain accurate and complete documentation of all quality control activities.
  • Investigate any deviations from established procedures or quality standards, and recommend corrective actions as needed.
  • Assist with the creation, editing, and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Manage other special projects as required; ensuring tasks are completed in conformance with business and regulatory requirements.
  • Assists with compiling statistical data and writing reports summarizing quality assurance findings.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements such as USP standards and FDA regulations.
