Introduction:
Aoka Engineering is a third party building department service and software provider that works to assist local jurisdictions.
As a Fire Plans Examiner, you will review building plans and construction documents to ensure compliance with fire codes, regulations, and safety standards.
You will analyse architectural and engineering drawings, conduct plan reviews, and provide guidance to architects, engineers, contractors, and property owners to ensure that fire protection systems and features are properly designed and implemented.
Qualification:
- Knowledge of principles and practices of fire plan checking and fire plan review processes.
- Possess relevant ICC certifications related to fire inspection or preferably fire marshal.
- Read and interpret building plans, specifications, and codes.
- Prepare clear and concise reports, correspondence, procedures, and other written materials.
- Prior experience in fire protection engineering, fire prevention, building code enforcement, or related fields is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of fire codes, ordinances, standards, and regulations, including NFPA codes and International Building Codes (IBC).
- Establish and maintain a variety of manual and computerized files, recordkeeping, and project management systems.
- Organize and prioritize a variety of projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner; organize own work, set priorities, and meet critical time deadlines
Responsibilities:
- Review architectural and engineering drawings, building plans, and construction documents to verify compliance with fire codes, ordinances, and regulations.
- Evaluate fire protection systems and features, including fire alarms, sprinkler systems, firerated construction, means of egress, and other fire suppression and detection systems.
- Analyze building designs and layouts to assess fire hazards, occupant loads, and emergency evacuation routes.
- Identify and document deficiencies, discrepancies, and noncompliance issues in building plans and specifications, and communicate findings to architects, engineers, contractors, and project stakeholders.
- Provide technical guidance and recommendations to designers, builders, and property owners regarding fire protection requirements, design alternatives, and code compliance solutions.
- Collaborate with other building department personnel, fire inspectors, and regulatory agencies to coordinate plan reviews, address technical issues, and ensure consistent enforcement of fire codes and regulations.
- Conduct preconstruction meetings with project stakeholders to discuss fire code requirements, review proposed plans, and address any concerns or questions.
- Maintain accurate records of plan reviews, comments, approvals, and other related activities.
- Stay current with changes in fire codes, regulations, and industry standards through training, professional development, and participation in professional organizations.
- Provide support and assistance to fire department personnel during fire investigations, emergency response activities, and public education events as needed.
- May need to provide supervision to lower level personnels.
Compensation and Benefits:
- $40-$60 per hour based on experience.
