Summary of Duties


The incumbent serves as an entry-level Criminal Investigator in the Office of Investigations who works under the general direction and guidance of a senior criminal investigator(s) in conducting criminal, civil, and administrative investigations involving Amtrak operations.

Essential Functions:


  • Assists senior investigators with higher level investigations which includes developing investigative plans.
  • Carry and use a firearm.
  • Assists in the research, gathering, and analysis of evidence and information to assist senior investigators in the preparation of investigative reports, oral reports, and/or testimony.
  • Serves subpoenas, assists in executing search and arrest warrants, and participates in routine surveillance activities.
  • Verbally articulates facts and findings accurately, concisely and objectively. Testifies in court and administrative hearings as appropriate.
  • Acquires, maintains, and applies knowledge of Federal and state laws and law enforcement trends.
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:


Education:


  • Bachelor's Degree from accredited college or university in Business Administration, Accounting, Criminal Justice, Law, or other related field.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:


  • Must have business, accounting, criminal justice, or legal experience.
  • Must satisfactorily complete the Criminal Investigator Training Program at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, Georgia within one year from date of hire.
  • Must remain employed with Amtrak OIG for a minimum of 24 months after completion of the FLETC training, if applicable. Failure to comply will result in having to reimburse Amtrak OIG a prorated amount of the cost of FLETC training.
  • Must be able to successfully complete firearms training and maintain qualifications to carry and use firearms.
  • Submit to a preemployment drug test and successfully complete preemployment background check that includes a criminal history and credit history check.
  • Must have a valid drivers license to operate OIG motor vehicle.

Minimum KSAs

  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment. Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to multitask with attention to detail.
  • Must be able to maintain composure in stressful situations and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Ability to cooperate across organizational boundaries to reach mutual goals.
  • Creativity, flexibility and ability to work in a fastpaced environment with constantly changing priorities.
  • Analytical, problem solving and project management skills.

PREFERRED WORK EXPERIENCE:


  • Master's Degree in Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Accounting, or other related field or a Juris Doctorate degree.
  • Familiarity with Federal criminal and civil laws, practice and procedure.
  • Knowledge of criminal investigative techniques (e.g. handling confidential informants, undercover assignments, physical and electronic surveillance, etc.).
  • Familiarity with passenger rail operations and/or transportation operations.
  • Knowledgeable of whitecollar crime such as contract/procurement, healthcare, and/or financial fraud.
  • Knowledge or experience with electronic database systems.

Compensation:

The salary/hourly range is $78,600 - $105,522.
