    Job Summary
    Will be responsible for the design, maintenance requirements, troubleshooting and development of various marine and drilling systems for the working fleet, new build, conversion, refurbishment, and upgrades of offshore drilling units. Review and approval of designs for onboard mechanical installations, development of layouts, development of scopes of work, procurement specifications, technical support and resolution of engineering issues. Provide solutions and resolution to technical issues and improvements raised by the operating rigs from the Field Support Groups, which are related to mechanical equipment and systems. Review and develop solutions, for marketing proposals and technical implementations, in line with company guidelines, class rules and regulatory standards and international standards ( ASME and API).

    Job Description

    • Key Roles & Responsibilities
      • Create and modify the following documentation: Piping and Instrumentation Drawings, General Arrangement Drawings, Piping and Flexibility Stress Analysis, Piping friction loss calculations for a multitude of systems. These systems include marine (bilge, ballast, seawater/freshwater cooling, potable water, sewage, hazardous and non hazardous drains, fire main, etc...) and drilling (managed pressure drilling, riser tensioners, crown mounted compensators, draw works, winches, mud processing, high pressure mud, cuttings handling equipment, etc....). Including pumping systems.
      • Modifications, design and selection of high pressure and low pressure piping, valves (including ball, globe, butterfly, gate, check valves, regulators, reducers, control valves, etc..) and pressure vessels for marine and drilling systems. ( system specs in line with class and regulatory rules and international standards).
      • Modifications and design of fire and safety systems (CO2, deluge, fire mains & hydrants, foam and sprinklers, lifeboats, fire extinguishers and life rafts).
      • Review and modifications to hoisting equipment (cranes, winches, etc..).
      • Modifications and design of HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) and refrigeration systems.
      • Modifications and design review for rig main power generating equipment and auxiliary machine equipment, engine fuel systems, air compressors & dryers, and water making equipment, boilers and steam generators.
      • Approve and review modification to propulsion system and the auxiliary support systems .
      • Approve and review the modifications to the lifting and hoisting systems inclusive of the auxiliary systems associated with hoisting systems .
      • Create, review and approve weld and heat treatment procedures. Help with selection of materials for different applications. ( metallurgy).
      • Review of loads, stresses and structural integrity for mechanical equipment.
      • Troubleshooting and design review of mooring and main propulsion equipment.
      • Review of systems per class (ABS/DNV) and other types of regulations as well as engineering best practices (ASME).
      • Review CFD and FEA modelling requirements along with the appropriate regulatory approval.
      • Complete site survey's to rigs offshore and to fabrication sites to define the scope of work required for vessel modifications, repairs and conversions, as well as meetings with customers as required.
    • Education:
      • BSC in Mechanical engineering discipline
    • Experience:
    • 3-5 years minimum experience, within the role of engineering, with offshore drilling systems and rigs.
    • 8-10 years total, minimum mechanical engineering experience.
    • Capable of using fluid mechanics software and friction losses.
    • Be willing to travel offshore as required.
    Pre-Requisite/ Qualification
    • Must be able to travel offshore to rigs and/or vendor facilities and shipyards.
    • Must successfully complete pre-employment drug screen.
    • Must successfully complete pre-employment background check.
