Clinical Manager, Adult Respiratory Services
Shift: 40 Hours / Nights
/ Remote work as necessary

BWH - ADULT RESPIRATORY CARE

GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT

Responsible for all aspects of the adult program under the guidance of the Sr. Manager and Pulmonary Medical Director.

This include, but is not limited to, clinical standards, orientation and education, and support for respiratory, nursing, and physician staff.

Provides a timely communication link between staff and leadership and vice versa. Works with all members of the multidisciplinary team in carrying out the responsibilities of the program. The Adult RT Manager will work a minimum of one clinical shift per month to maintain competencies.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs all responsibilities of a staff respiratory therapist as necessary.
  • Develop, coordinate, and provide comprehensive inservice education for all staff.
  • Ensures annual clinical staff competencies are completed in a timely manner: annually, biannually, or quarterly in coordination with respiratory educators.
  • Collaborates with nursing, and physicians regarding RT related education.
  • Reviews current literature/resources to support new practices.
  • Assists with policy and procedure development related to new clinical initiatives/therapies and/or revisions to current policies and procedures.
  • Assists Sr. Manager in monitoring and ensuring department compliance within current JC standards.
  • Actively supports organizational change initiatives.
o Collaborates with Pulmonary Medical Director and Sr. Manager to plan, implement, evaluate, and facilitate the team process.

  • Serves as a resource person for patients and families.
  • Assist with additional responsibilities as delegated by the director or senior manager of pulmonary services.

Participates in the management of people and resources:

  • Collaborate with the program manager on the annual performance appraisals of the respiratory staff.
  • Hires, evaluates, and provides leadership to the Respiratory Therapists while they are performing in the RT role.
- o Provides educational classes for bedside caregivers.
- o Assists in orientation of new staff team members.


Drive QI process:

  • Assists in collection and review of clinical data, including data sharing with other institutions.
  • Responsible for patient and complications review in mortality and morbidity meetings.
  • Develops and maintains clinical standards of care, protocols, policies and procedures, and training manuals.
  • Provides a timely communication link between staff and leadership and vice versa; maintains ongoing communication with the pulmonary medical director regarding the administration of the program.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Works in patient care area.
  • Works in office and other hospital areas.
  • Is exposed to same conditions as Respiratory Therapist when in patient care area.
  • Works flexible hours, shifts, and days, as needed.
  • Perform duties of Administrator on Call (AOC) on a rotating basis.
  • A.S. in Respiratory Therapy minimum, BS/BA in healthcare or management related field required. Extensive clinical experience may be considered in lieu of baccalaureate degree.
  • RRT designation by NBRC
  • Advanced designation of ACCS strongly desired.
  • Current leadership or educator experience strongly desired.
  • Current licensure by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Minimum five years' clinical experience in Respiratory Care.

SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills to interact with physicians, other hospital personnel and Respiratory Care staff.
  • Must be able to review technical material and present it in a manner that is easily understood by all levels of clinical staff.
  • Must be able to work independently within boundaries of job description.
  • Must possess good technical aptitude to understand and operate highly complex medical equipment.
  • Must possess organizational skills.
