They work to provide a personalized experience for our consumers backed by best-in-class, data-driven marketing capabilities. The Customer Experience team focuses across 4 departments including, Marketing, Creative, Communications, and our Loyalty & CRM team. Everyone brings their own point of view to create a unique experience for the pets and pet parents.


About the Location

Fully Remote Position:

This position is considered to be Fully Remote and work is done from another location outside of Phoenix Home Office (within the United States).

Associates that are considered to be Fully Remote do not have a work space at Phoenix Home Office and can expect to be asked to travel to Phoenix Home Office several times a year [or more], based on business needs and in partnership with leadership.

Associates that are considered to be Fully Remote will acknowledge the "Remote Work Agreement" upon hire.


About the Job ABOUT THE DECISION SCIENTIST ROLE**The Analytics and Insights team consists of highly business-oriented Strategy and analytical professionals that use Big Data to generate break-through insights to deliver top
- and bottom-line growth for the company. As part of the customer experience group, our focus is on loyalty, personalization, digital and services, but we operate throughout the business.


This is a high-visibility, broad-ranged role with regular interactions with leadership across PetSmart and with an opportunity for disproportionate impact to the business The team has a passion for understanding and driving customer behavior through a combination of data, advanced statistics, machine learning models and experimentation.

As a Decision Scientist, the position evangelizes the value of analytics and data among peers and stakeholders and invests significant time learning the business, building trust, and understanding the challenges of each function.

Reporting to a Sr Manager of Insights and Analytics, the Decision Scientist will:

  • Execute extraction and synthesis of data from various databases, including Snowflake: Databricks. Proficient with SQL server and BI systems; perform exploratory data analysis, cleanse, massage, and aggregate data. Integrates 1st 2nd, and 3rd party customer data into a holistic story to show a clear picture of our customers behavior
  • Work under consultative or selfinitiated direction to assess and produce relevant, standard, or personalized analytics solutions (reports, charts, and presentations) from structured data sources by querying data repositories and generating the associated information
  • Guides new analysts in databases, tools, access, data prep techniques and methods of investigations

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Ability to get procure and manipulate largescale, complex data from a variety of systems (Snowflake, DataBricks, Medalia, on prem, web tool, etc.), experience reshaping data to ensure it is in right structure for analysis, filtering and removal of outliers. Demonstrated experience with cloud tech for data and analytics solutions (Google Cloud)
  • Strategic thinker, deeply curious and passionate about leveraging data to answer complex business questions
  • Ability to work collaboratively and constructively with leaders and team members across the business to execute and deliver against analytical projects
  • Flexible mindset, and ability to contribute to multiple work streams, with fluid and evolving prioritization
  • A selfstarter with the ability to manage own workflow with support from the rest of the team
  • Ability to handle and maintain the confidentiality of highly sensitive information
  • Effective communication skills, with a particular focus on the ability to:
  • Translate complex or highly technical concepts in ways that make them easily understood by leaders and team members
  • Efficiently get to "clientready" output for direct manager and other leaders
  • Must be excited to research and learn new techniques to augment current tools and methodologies

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • This position requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in Data Science, Data Analytics, Information Management Systems, or a related field,
  • Must also have 2 years of related, professional experience in an analytical role.
  • Experience performing decision science and/or analytics in a retail setting is ideal.
