Exercise Specialist
General Summary:
The Exercise Specialist leads, instructs, and motivates individuals or groups in exercise activities, including cardiovascular exercise, strength training, and stretching.
Essential Job Functions*:
- Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for the knowledge base inherent in the role of the exercise specialist
- Has a understanding of the physiological basis of activity and is able to prescribe and instruct exercises
- Explains program and test procedures to participant. Considers agespecific needs in the assessment process and in service delivery
- Demonstrates correct use of exercise equipment and exercise routines.
- May conduct personal training services or group exercise classes, observing participants during exercise for adverse signs.
- May advise their clients on how to modify their lifestyle outside of the gym to improve their fitness.
- May supervise volunteers
- Assists with scheduling member services
- May be required to tend the front desk, sign up new members, give tours of the facility, and supervise the weight training and cardiovascular equipment areas
- Provides instruction for individuals on exercise equipment and exercise regimen
- Assists in ordering and receiving supplies
- Maintains appropriate reports for the Director of Rehabilitation Services as necessary
- Participates in clinics, conferences, and educational programs to increase knowledge and improve patient care and staff performance
- Responsible for maintaining Continuing Education units for license renewal
- Must comply with relevant laws and regulations as they relate to the position
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein
- Complies with hospital and departmental policies, procedures, regulations and standards as related to job.
- Demonstrates hospital's stated mission and values of teamwork, respect and communication with coworkers, patients, families and visitors.

Qualifications:

Education
Required:
certification in exercise related field.
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in exercise related field.

Work Experience
Preferred:
At least two years experience in fitness program
- Licensure/Certifications/Registrations
Required:
BLS certified
Exercise specialist certification or successful completion within 6 months.
