    Description

    Position Overview:

    The Controls Engineer supports the design, implementation, and maintenance of process control systems (including electrical, mechanical, and chemical control devices) for Gopher Resource's manufacturing operations.

    They will be involved in the programming, maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical devices such as PLC's, VFD's and HMI's. The Controls Engineer will also support the creation and modification of electrical drawings and control circuits.


    Critical Success Criteria:
    Be a subject matter expert to support the safe, environmentally sound, and efficient operations of plant control systemsTake requests from both technical and non-technical teams to identify solutions that align with corporate control systems standards and industry best practicesSupport control systems enhancements and modification, maintaining documentation integrityEffectively communicate and collaborate across organizational boundariesResponsibilities:Assist with the specification, procurement, installation, and commissioning of new instrumentation and control systemsDay-to-day control systems health monitoring, troubleshooting and performance optimizationDevelop and maintain power distribution and control panel electrical drawingsDevelop human machine interface (HMI) controls following high performance HMI principles, industry standards, and best practicesDevelop state based, procedural automation controls following industry standards and best practicesPerform detailed review of control system design and configuration documentationLead and implement control systems upgrade and improvement projectsSupervise and manage external contractors to complete project work to meet schedule and budget commitmentsEffectively communicate project plans, timing, and status to project teams and other management membersProvide technical coaching and support to maintenance and operations teamsResponds to emergency and service calls that occur outside normal working hoursCollaborate with Controls team to transfer technical knowledge and experienceRequirements:2-year technical degree from an accredited school OR current enrollment in a 4-year engineering program from an accredited schoolwith at least 50% completionminimally required5+ years of previous work experience in a controls engineering roleWorking knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, Ethernet networks, and ServersPrevious development experience with Aveva System Platform (Wonderware) or similar SCADA systemsPrevious development experience with FactoryTalk View or similar HMI programming softwareProcess automation systems development experience using Rockwell Logix/Studio family of softwarePrevious experience with testing, diagnosing, troubleshooting, and debugging software systemsDemonstrable knowledge of electrical and electronic systemsAbility to understand schematics, wiring diagrams, ladder diagrams, and one-line diagramsEffective interpersonal skills, including establishing trust, conflict resolution, and written & verbal communicationWillingness and ability to wear respirator mask directly against skin with or without reasonable accommodation

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or related field from an accredited College or University strongly preferred, but not requiredPrevious work experience in a metal casting, foundry, or similar manufacturing operation preferred, but not requiredPrevious work experience with PLC networks (Ethernet/IP and ControlNet) preferred, but not requiredWorking knowledge of AutoCAD software preferred, but not requiredAbility to design new control panels and direct/assist electricians with new and existing installations and upgrades preferred, but not requiredGopher Resource is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
