Responsibilities


This position serves as a Site Safety Manager for a specific Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Public Works Department providing safety services to Navy's shore based industrial activities, facility life cycle management, and military commands.

The incumbent is responsible for the planning, organizing, directing, operating, executing, and evaluating major program elements of a comprehensive Navy Occupational Safety and Health (NAVOSH) program within their assigned area of responsibility (AOR).

These duties involve safety policy, safety risk management, safety assurance, and safety promotion for their area of responsibility


Qualifications Required

  • Knowledge of Federal, DoD, DoN, NAVFAC, and host nation (as applicable) safety and occupational health regulations, standards, principles, practices, and procedures applicable to a wide range of diverse and hazardous operations common to shorebased industrial activities, construction practices, and military operations sufficient to plan, develop, and administer a safety and health program for a military public works department;
  • Knowledge of a wide variety of trade and labor occupations, shop machinery, maintenance work processes, facilities maintenance techniques, industrial work processes, material handling procedures, and environmental conditions in order to identify failures in human or equipment performance and to recommend control measures;
  • Knowledge of basic building design, construction practices, and installation and operation of facility utility systems sufficient to review building designs and evaluate work for compliance with applicable construction safety and occupational health regulations, standards, principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Practical knowledge of chemicals, compressed gases, flammable and combustible liquids, and electricity to sufficient to identify, evaluate, and control hazardous conditions; identify conditions immediately dangerous to life and health; and determine casual factors contributing to mishaps.
  • Practical knowledge on calibrating, operating, reading, and interpreting instruments used to detect hazardous atmospheres and working conditions in order to determine if it is safe for personnel.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and training techniques to identify training needs, develop, and conduct effective workplace safety training;

Pay:
$88, $115,253.00 per year

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
