Essential Functions:


The Judiciary Clerk position for Somerset County District Court is responsible for primary cashier duties in the court, to include operating the cash register on a production basis.

The incumbent will process all monies received from customers in all case types, collect trial payments, and receive counter payments.

This position is responsible for opening, time/date stamping, and distributing all incoming mail and counter filings. The incumbent will act as a civil clerk and will assist the public at the counter.


Education:

High school diploma (or GED equivalent).


Experience:


One (1) year of work experience, preferably in court operations or in the fields of criminal justice, Parole and Probation, legal or financial services.


Note:

A Bachelor's Degree may substitute the required work experience.

A Paralegal/Associates Degree or 60 college credits may substitute the required work experience.

A Paralegal Certificate may substitute the required work experience.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


Knowledge of:

Specific knowledge of the cashier/accounting functions.

General knowledge of court proceedings.

District Court forms/procedures/resources available to customers and which would be applicable for the customers particular situation.

Resources available to customer to receive assistance with non-District Court related issues.

General office practices, procedures, and equipment.

Basic English and arithmetic to include, but not limited to, spelling, punctuation, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.


Skill in:

Organization and workload management.

Utilizing all forms of office technology, including cash register, computer, fax machine, photocopier, shredder, postage meter and printers.

Typing on a personal computer.

Accuracy and attention to detail.


Ability to:

Complete assigned duties within reasonable time frame.

Multitask and prioritize competing tasks, particularly when the office is short-staffed.

Manage a high-volume workload in a busy, fast-paced office environment.

Operate computerized cash register, cash register program, and register equipment.

Account for all monies received via daily balancing of cash drawer.

Observe proper cash handling and deposit protocol.

Enter data accurately using proper coding.

Provide customer service quickly, accurately, and consistently to the public, attorneys, and other agencies.

Utilize District Court manuals and tip sheets to complete assignments and assist customers.

Maintain a professional demeanor with all customers.

Accurately file cases in alphabetical and numerical order.

Stand or sit for prolonged periods of time.

Bend or stoop to file and retrieve documents and folders in lower cabinet drawers.

Climb a ladder to retrieve or file documents and folders.

Lift and stack boxes weighing up to 25 lbs.
