ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The incumbent performs the full range of physical labor duties associated with the maintenance of structures and land in the District of Columbia.
  • Utilizing rakes, shovels, and brooms, removes solid waste from lots, private alleys, and yards.
  • Collects solid waste, dirt, and other debris from rooms, corridors, and basements.
  • Clears snow from the sidewalks.
  • Mows grass with heavy walkingtype power mowers and swing blades; adjusts mower blades; cleans and lubricates mowers; trims shrubbery with hand trimmers.
  • Transports heating appliances, refrigerators, hot water tanks, sinks, and heavy furniture; loads and unloads trucks.
  • Assists tradesmen, such as Electricians, Carpenters, Plumbers, Plasterers, Painters, and Pest Controllers, by transporting ladders, tools, equipment, and supplies; cleaning work areas;
  • Loads and unloads trucks with heavy tools, materials, and equipment, such as wood, wire, line, plaster, and roofing materials;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
A high school diploma or GED is required. Due to field responsibilities, the incumbent must possess a valid driver's license. The incumbent may be transferred within the District of Columbia Housing Authority.
