Duties:


  • Analyzes the cause and significance of unexpected experimental results and modifies or redesigns techniques and methods as necessary.
  • Determines the specific data needed and the best approach and methods to obtain the data.
  • Practices and enforces safe laboratory practices and hazardous materials handling.
  • Follows established safety guidelines and disseminates safety standards to all staff.
  • Orients and trains staff on the methods and procedures used in the laboratory.
  • Manages the daytoday operation of the laboratory, including coordinating research projects and ensuring availability of equipment and supplies.
  • Facilitates pertinent research information to conduct literature searches and review.
  • Develops new methods for and collects, analyzes, organizes and records experimental data appropriate for publication, and future reference by others.

Basic Requirements

A. Have a degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. The specialized experience must demonstrate one year of fulltime work experience, or the equivalent if parttime (for example, an employee working 20 hours per week for a 12month period should be credited with 6 months of experience.)


Experience may have been obtained in either the federal service or its equivalent with state or local government, the private sector, or nongovernmental organizations.-
