About The Role


As the Director of Operations at Williams Electric, you will play a pivotal role in driving operational excellence and advancing our mission of delivering top-tier utility services.

Your strategic leadership will ensure the efficient execution of projects, optimize resource utilization, and uphold our commitment to safety and quality across all operational activities.

With your guidance, we will continue to lead the charge in shaping the future of the electric utility landscape.

The position will be in Shelby, NC and expected to spend a portion of the time traveling to jobsites and crew locations.

A company vehicle or stipend will be provided. Williams Electric is a distribution/transmission line construction company based out of Shelby, NC.

Williams has been in business since 1968 and supports utility providers primarily in the Carolinas along with other utilities in the southeast and eastern US.


Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate operational activities across multiple utility service projects.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to optimize operational efficiency and productivity.
  • Collaborate with crossfunctional teams to ensure seamless project execution from inception to completion.
  • Drive a culture of safety, quality, and compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Identify and mitigate operational risks to minimize project disruptions and ensure timely delivery.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to project teams to foster professional growth and development.
  • Work with Fleet and Safety Departments to ensure policies are in place and monitor compliance.
  • Track company revenue, margins and monthly budget reviews.
  • Assist on project estimates for OH/UG Distribution, Transmission, and Telecom.
  • Assist with bid reviews with upper management when applicable.
  • Work with finance on company budget and growth strategies.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years' experience in operations management within the electric utility industry.
  • 5+ years experience managing the daytoday operations of distribution crews with a focus on managing General Foreman level and above.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading and managing largescale utility projects.
  • Strong understanding of utility operations, including transmission, substation, and distribution systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives and achieve operational excellence.
  • Strong computer skills with extensive experience in Microsoft products

Key Nice-To-Haves

  • Relevant certifications such as PMP (Project Management Professional) or PE (Professional Engineer).
  • Graduate degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
