Policy Analyst :

Location: DOE Forrestal Building, Washington, DC


This position is for a Policy Analyst to assist the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Office of Policy and Strategic Planning (NA-1.1) in execution of their policy programs.

This position will support NA-1.1 leadership with planning and implementation of various programs related to enterprise-wide policy analysis and integration.

Programs will focus on the NNSA mission space and enabling the Nuclear Security Enterprise to anticipate and effectively respond to emerging national security challenges.


Located in the Office of Policy and Strategic Planning (NA-1.1), NNSA Policy serves as a core intellectual hub to ensure that NNSA can build an enduring advantage for the nuclear security enterprise (NSE) in a changing world.


Responsibilities:


  • Facilitate communication and programrelated information across the NA1.1 mission space.
  • Brief senior leaders and interact at seniorleader levels; interactions may include direct working relationships with interagency and international partners.
  • Coordinate and track multiple plans, policy, and program initiatives. Understand budgetary issues with programs of record and have the ability to track multiple issues across programs.
  • Support programs and tools to identify emerging challenges impacting the nuclear security mission and inform decisionmaking.
  • Support senior leadership with strategic policy integration on national security through policy workshops with NNSA stakeholders and initiatives tasked by NNSA leadership.
  • Undertake rapid response policy analysis for NNSA leadership on issues relevant to NNSA's nuclear security mission, strategic deterrence, and other matters.
  • Support development of policy network and technical experts at NNSA's LPS, the interagency, and nongovernmental partners. Program support will focus on emerging policy and technical challenges for NNSA to anticipate and respond to a changing geopolitical world.
  • Travel may be required to support policy development, operations, training, and meetings.

Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree and minimum of 5 years of experience in professional or academic setting.
  • Research experience in the National Security and Nuclear field.
  • Proficient in Adobe Acrobat and SharePoint.
  • Willingness to work directly with clients in an environment that changes rapidly; must possess a mature approach to the personal interactions between a consultant and the client.
  • Must be an independent selfstarter with excellent organizational skills and have the ability to multitask and be comfortable working with a team of technical experts in varying fields and disciplines.
  • Ability to track and monitor documents from inception to production.
  • Ability to perform in a fastpaced, deadlineoriented work environment.
  • Ability to successfully execute many complex tasks simultaneously.
  • General knowledge of agency organization and structure.
  • Able to sit for extended periods and perform work in an office environment, including extensive use of computers.
  • Travel may be required. Travel will be cost to the government and only economy airfare and economy class rental cars will be allowed.
  • Able to lift 50 pounds, carry your own luggage, and walk up to a quarter of a mile to work locations.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Understanding of DOE and NNSA Strategic Mission.
  • Experienced in Policy Program support services regarding planning and initiatives supporting the DOE and NNSA.
