    Position Title:
    Postdoctoral Researcher

    Department: 9073|RAC Support


    Responsibilities:


    Reporting to the Director of the Regional Application Center (RAC), the postdoctoral researcher will play an essential role in coordination of departmental efforts, coordinate research and assist in training/education activities, generate publications and reports, identify and write new grants for funding, and assist the RAC director in building new programs.


    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Lead and manage research projects.
    • Conduct interdisciplinary research at the intersection of geospatial programs with education, engineering, architecture, geosciences and other programs as identified.
    • The work will entail geospatial modeling, coding, conducting user studies, analyzing and interpreting research data, and publishing research outcomes.
    • Develop and implement research proposals.
    • Mentor graduate and undergraduate students.
    • Collaborate with other scientists and engineers.
    • Stay current on the latest research in the area.
    • Search pertinent scientific literature as needed.
    • Additional projects, presentations, and duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    PhD degree in Earth and Energy Sciences or related fields.


    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Skills and research expertise are desired in areas such as remote sensing, geo-spatial analysis, and Geographic Information System (GIS) experience in the fields of natural disaster response, watershed management, and land use/land change assessment and analysis.
    • Proficiency in ArcGIS/ArcPro, StoryMap development and remote sensing software.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Experience in writing and publishing research papers.
    • Experience in presenting at professional meetings.
    Successful candidates must be able to demonstrate and have the:


    • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines, as well as the ability to work as a collaborative teammate.
    • Ability to effectively communicate, both written and oral.
    • Ability to explain methods and findings to stakeholders.
    • Ability to publish scientific papers and participate in development of research proposals.
    • Flexibility to adjust to changing priorities.
