    Assistant or Associate Professor in Microbiology or Biomedical Physiology

    Responsibilities:
    The University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Department of Biology ), invites applications to fill a tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level starting in Fall 2024.

    We are recruiting an outstanding scientist with a promising research program that is committed to advancing our traditions in equity and inclusion.

    We broadly encourage applications from biologists studying various fields of microbiology and biomedical physiology. We will also consider outstanding applications from other fields that fit within our department.

    Successful hires in this position should be able to provide instruction at the advanced undergraduate or graduate level in at least one (and preferably two) of the following areas:
    Virology, Histology, General or Biomedical physiology, Neurophysiology, Endocrinology, Cell Biology, Medical Toxicology, Biomedical Genomics, or Pathogenic microbiology.

    This hire is part of a cluster of at least 4 positions targeted for Fall 2024 to strengthen teaching and research in the areas of ecology, evolution, and biomedical science, and to advance equity, inclusion, and diversity at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

    Salary is commensurate with experience.

    Successful applicants will have a robust academic record, be active educators and researchers in their discipline, cultivating a student body that is intellectually curious and civically engaged.

    Faculty members should pursue innovation informed by best practices and serve as advisors and mentors to students to encourage success.

    Individuals will collaborate with colleagues to assess and improve curricula, conduct scholarly research, and increase student success through engagement with innovative projects.

    Faculty members shall demonstrate institutional citizenship as leaders at the department, college, and university levels; and in their professional fields.


    The University of Louisiana is an R1 doctoral research institution The UL Lafayette Department of Biology is one of the largest biology programs on the Gulf Coast, with about 30 faculty members, 70 graduate students, and approximately 900 undergraduate students.

    Support for research includes a mouse vivarium, aquatics labs, departmental vehicles, greenhouses, shared lab instrumentation, the Ecology Center, Microscopy Center, and New Iberia Research Center (a primate research facility), and Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON) marine lab.

    Opportunities for collaboration are available within the department, and with personnel at university affiliated centers and the USGS Wetland and Aquatic Research Center.


    Qualifications:
    Minimum qualifications are a doctorate in a relevant field, a significant publication record, and postdoctoral experience.

    Successful applicants will be expected to establish a vigorous and externally funded research program, to teach courses to advanced undergraduate and graduate students, and to participate in our Ph.

    D. program in Environmental and Evolutionary Biology.

    Individuals hired in this and related searches will also participate in development of new graduate programs in the general area of biomedicine.

    This position has a workload expectation of 60% research, 20% instruction (one lecture or lecture/laboratory course per semester) and 20% service.
