The Assistant Men's Basketball Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Men's Basketball Coach in coaching the highly competitive NCAA men's basketball program, recruiting student athletes, assisting in coordinating practices and activity travel, and in promoting events and activities.


Responsibilities:


Recruitment of basketball scholarship student-athletes as follows:
a. Evaluate talent throughout the year, and coordinate communication plan with prospects.

b. Reply to recruiting correspondence.

c. Correspond with high school coaches in and out of state.

d. Assist in coordination of communications regarding home visits and official visits.

e. Assist in coordinating and implementing prospect recruiting visits.


  • Work closely with administration, as assigned by Head Coach.
  • Summer Camps
a. Assist in instructional duties.


  • Scout Basketball Opponents
a. Scout those opponents assigned by Head Coach.

b. Analyze scouting report with Head Coach and staff.

c. Assist staff in practice preparation based on scouting report.


  • Coaching
a. Practice preparation and providing instruction and motivation during practice.

b. Helping in preparation of off season workouts.

c. Administering individual and group workouts in pre and post season.


  • Public Relations
a. Represent the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at numerous banquets, conventions, and with the external community.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Position requires a bachelor's degree or an advanced degree and a successful background in coaching collegiate basketball. Previous experience in the recruitment of Division I athletes preferred.

Demonstrated commitment to NCAA rules compliance and student-athlete academic success; leadership skills; ability manage team dynamics; effective interpersonal and public relations skills; and ability to relate effectively with student-athletes, faculty, staff, administration, alumni and external community.
