The primary purpose of the Youth Assistance/Diversion Coordinator position is to develop, facilitate direct program services for a diversion program initiative, providing essential functions as outlined in the contract with Wayne County 3rd Judicial Court and Wayne County Health, Human and Veteran Services. This may include but is not limited to assisting assigned Growth Works clients in developing life skills, behavior management tools and educational improvement activities.

    Duties and responsibilities

    • Assists implementation of diversion program services as required, including but not limited to facilitating or coordinating clients to receive group-based or individual life skills training, educational and vocational services, etc.
    • Completes paperwork regarding client progress and/or completion of the program based on requirements of the referral source;
    • Completes intake and additional assessments as assigned to determine best-fit services for individual client needs;
    • Manages caseload and provides direct monitoring for diversion program clients including occasional school and home visits;
    • Serves as liaison with clients regarding scheduling, program guidelines and other program functions;
    • Coordinates with Assured Family Services to complete Juvenile Inventory for Functioning;
    • Provides appropriate referrals to community resources as requested and required for clients and their families based on individual need;
    • Maintains accurate and timely records of youth contact in case notes ensuring that all records and youth progress reports are documented and maintained in accordance with established agency standards and county policy standards
    • Monitors documentation for diversion clients to meet licensing and accreditation standards of care, including but not limited to file review;
    • Adheres to all agency program policies and procedures
    • Completes initial and ongoing agency training as required including building safety, policy and procedure, Growth Works custom training and Detroit Wayne Connect (DWC) topics; Participates in case conferences and intra-agency program meetings as assigned;
    • Attend and participate in Care Management Organization/Youth Assistant Program in-services and staff development trainings, including obtaining non-violent crisis intervention certification (CPI);
    • Performs other duties as assigned by Client Services Supervisor

    Qualifications

    • Minimum Bachelor's Degree in education, social work, criminal justice, psychology or related human services;
    • Two years' experience working with at risk populations preferred;
    • Familiarity and experience with screening and assessment tools preferred;
    • Computer skills, including experience with industry standard e-mail, word processing and database software;
    • Organizational ability, flexibility, resourcefulness, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work independently and meet deadlines;
    • Ability to form and maintain positive working relationships with supervisor, co-workers, participants and community stakeholders and employers;
    • Knowledge of community resources;
    • Time management and organizational skills, the ability to work on multiple tasks;
    • Able to implement crisis intervention techniques as necessary;
    • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population;
    • Valid driver's license, good driving record, reliable transportation and automobile insurance meeting minimum requirements as defined by the agency:
    • Successful completion of initial and on-going employment screens, including, but not limited to criminal background, sex offender, drug screen, valid Michigan driver's license, abuse and neglect and vehicle record check as required

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Must be able to complete manual tasks involving dexterity to enter and retrieve data using computer systems, systems applications, and other office equipment. Ability to walk, stand, sit for short or long periods of time in an office setting.
    • In certain situations, may be required to work within changing physical environments due to support of child/family's needs.
    • Ability to lift and transport materials/supplies up to 25 lbs. for internal documentation and recordkeeping, court support, and other administrative tasks.

    SCHEDULE:

    Full-time, 40 hours/week exempt employee. Must maintain evening hours and a flexible schedule as needed.
