Hamilton Lane's Impact Investments team makes private equity direct and co-investments, taking both minority and majority stakes, primarily in small and mid-sized companies.

They can act as lead investor, co-lead, or co-investment partner alongside new and existing general partners (GPs).

The firm's Impact Investments are size, stage & sector agnostic - it makes direct investments across geographies and strategies, including buyout, growth, late-stage venture, and real assets.


As a Vice President, Impact Investments, you will lead direct equity and co-investments with a focus on impact and sustainable investments.

You will be responsible for the full life cycle of private equity - from identifying and evaluating new opportunities through monitoring and exiting investments.

You will act as lead on intimate, lean deal teams to drive the investment process and will provide mentorship and guidance to mid-level and junior team members


Your responsibilities will be to:

  • Perform thorough financial and business due diligence to evaluate risk/reward of Impact Investment opportunities
  • Evaluate prospective investments by assessing key business drivers, risks/merits and developing cogent investment theses
  • Perform rigorous financial analyses and create complex financial models to support investment decisions
  • Prepare investment memoranda and present recommendations to investment teams and the firm's Investment Committee
  • Monitor existing investments by analyzing and reporting on portfolio companies' financial results
  • Develop relationships internally and externally to source new investments from the GP community and other sources
  • Keep abreast of the competitive landscape and current trends in the targeted impact and sustainability sectors
  • Represent the firm in the market by networking and speaking at private equity industry conferences and other events
  • Play a lead role on deal teams in identifying, analyzing, and closing Impact Investments

Your background and skills will include:

  • 8+ years of experience, including at least 5 years in private equity direct investing experience.
  • Transaction experience in investment banking, accounting, or management/turnaround consulting.
  • Knowledge of and passion for impact andsustainable business themes, with relevant sector expertise such as technology, healthcare, renewables, etc.
  • Solid foundation of quantitative and qualitative analytical skills, complex financial modelling, company valuation analysis, critical thinking, investment acumen, business judgment, and strong communication skills.
