Job Summary:


Civil construction inspector (field site representative) provides field coordination, project management, and observation for subdivision and utility district public works projects.


Typical Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Perform daily site visits and observations of all assigned construction projects.
  • Prepare daily reports for each assigned project.
  • Monitor, document, and report construction progress for each project.
  • Coordinate and observe all required testing procedures for the water, sanitary, and drainage facilities.
  • Observe excavation, fill, soil compaction, utility line installation activities.
  • Observe paving operations, coordinate with contractors and subcontractors, testing agency, city/county inspectors.
  • Assist with the coordination and scheduling of required agency or municipality inspections, and creation of punch lists.
  • Follow through to ensure that all construction deficiencies are properly corrected and documented.
  • Report to and communicate with internal project managers, engineers, surveyors.
  • Initiate and conduct preinspections of all projects prior to formal scheduled inspections.
  • Perform plan reviews for "constructability" issues.
  • Perform asbuilt reviews for agency submittal and approval.
  • Other related field and office duties as required.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:


  • Ability to read, interpret and understand civil construction drawings, bid proposals and construction documents.
  • Ability to identify, document, and notify all parties of construction deficiencies and compliance issues.
  • Ability to review and process monthly pay requests from the Contractor.
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate with others clearly and effectively.
  • Excellent communications skills: interpersonal, listening, oral, and written.
  • Skilled in PC usage, smartphones, tablets, and associated software including, but not limited to Microsoft Office, TEAMS, Outlook.
  • Able to work with mínimal supervision, efficiently schedule and manage time.
  • Knowledgeable in the use and techniques of all equipment used for confined space entry such as air monitoring devices, respirators, tripods and lift equipment, etc.

Work Environment:


  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to construction activities, fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
  • This is a fulltime position which will typically involve 40+ hours a week. Due to the nature of the job, the employee must be available oncall early/late hours/weekends to deal with construction issues, delays, bad weather, malfunctioning equipment and emergencies, etc. at the job site.

Education, certification and experience:


  • Minimum 2 years of civil infrastructure or related utility or construction experience
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid Driver's License is required.
  • Must have reliable/dependable transportation.
  • Must maintain minimum vehicle insurance as required by state law.
  • Must be proficient with the use of a smartphone and an iPad/Tablet/Computer.

  • The employee might frequently lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally might lift and move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
