    Summary of Position:
    # The overall purpose of the Director of Behavioral Science for the Saratoga Hospital Family Medicine Residency is to contribute to the development and implementation of the behavioral medicine curriculum in residency training and to assume a primary role in the implementation of the resident wellness curriculum (i.e. resident support groups and individual support as needed).

    The ideal behavioral science director demonstrates enthusiasm in contributing to the academic, clinical, and professional development of future generations of family physicians, and demonstrates a strong commitment to a social justice orientation within their work ethic.

    The position is a part-time position with the residency.

    It is anticipated that the position will initially be 0.2 FTE for the academic year, increasing to 0.4 FTE for the academic year, and 0.6 FTE for the academic year.

    Depending upon the applicant, the remained of a full-time position with Saratoga Hospital will be clinical, in the inpatient and/or outpatient setting.

    As appropriate, this position provides clinical care to patients within the appropriate clinical scope of practice.

    Saratoga Hospital Family Medicine Residency Curriculum:

    Collaborates with program leadership and core faculty to inform the design, implementation, and evaluation of behavioral medicine rotation experiences.

    Maintains and updates an inventory of rotation experiences to offer to residents Meets with residents to identify learning needs and matches with appropriate rotation experiences based on PGY level Cultivates and maintains relationships with key behavioral medicine clinicians who will work with residents on rotation Coordinates formative evaluation of residents on rotation by attendings to facilitate summative evaluation of each resident on rotation Didactic instruction to medical residents and students (including development of instructional resources, articles, lecture slides, and workshops) Precepting and clinical supervision to medical residents and medical students on cases in the outpatient and inpatient setting (participation in hospital rounds, outpatient sessions, video review), including observation and feedback on resident-patient engagement Participation in faculty development sessions (including periodic presentation of behavioral medicine-related content)#

    Resident Wellness and Resilience:
    In collaboration with other faculty, develops and implements the wellness curriculum Provides individual consultative support, referral, and brief counseling as needed to residents with behavioral health and professionalism concerns Oversees or facilitates regular wellness sessions with each PGY group of residents

    Residency Clinical Engagement:
    Provides consultative patient care to address the mental health, case management, and care management needs of resident and attending physicians# patients Supports the integration of behavioral health care within the resident outpatient training sites and collaborates with the behavioral health staff at the training sites

    Faculty:
    Participates in residency faculty responsibilities including faculty meetings, clinical competency committee, program evaluation committee, resident evaluations, and resident recruitment activities May be asked to participate in precepting, scholarly activity, and other clinical and administrative tasks as deemed appropriate by self and/or other program leadership Responsible for overseeing the following ACGME Family Medicine Residency requirements: II.B.2.h) There must be faculty members dedicated to the interprofessional integration of behavioral health into the educational program.

    (Core) IV.C.3.p) The curriculum must incorporate behavioral health into all aspects of patient care, including experience in integrated interprofessional behavioral health care in the FMP.

    (Core) IV.C.3.p).(1) Residents must have a dedicated experience in the diagnosis and management of common mental illness, including interprofessional training in cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and psychopharmacology.

    (Core) IV.C.3.p).(2) This experience should include identification and treatment of substance use disorders, including alcohol use disorder and Opioid Use Disorder.

    (Detail) IV.B.1.b).(1).(a).(i).(c) addressing behavioral health and inequities in health and health care.

    (Core) IV.B.1.b).(1).(a).(iv) diagnose, manage, and integrate care for common mental illness and behavioral issues, including substance use disorders, in patients of all ages; (Core) IV.B.1.b).(1).(a).(v) identify risk level of patients in panels and connect with appropriate preventive care coordination through team-based support; (Core) IV.B.1.b).(1).(a).

    (vii) apply the biopsychosocial model of health to patients, specifically to assess behavioral, community, environmental, socioeconomic, and family influences on the health of patients, and integrate those with biomedical influences, appropriately acknowledging racial categories as social constructs as opposed to biologically distinct determinants of health; (Core) Minimum Qualifications:
    #Behavioral Health professional with a minimum of Masters level education and full licensure or license-eligible in NYS (e.g., LCSW-R, LCSW, LMHC).#Minimum of 6 years of post-graduate supervised clinical experience preferred.#Previous experience with student/ resident/ staff training preferred.#Demonstration of program-level leadership or administrative role preferred.#Commitment to professional development related to behavioral health in Family Medicine residency education (i.e.#continuing education, regional and national conferences related to behavioral medicine training in residency).
