    Description


    The City of Lansing's Department of Neighborhoods, Arts & Citizen Engagement is seeking a Financial Counselor within the of Office of Financial Empowerment Division.

    This is a great opportunity for candidates to provide individualized financial counseling to clients within the community.


    The successful candidate will have knowledge of Microsoft Suites products, proficient in negotiation techniques, familiar with credit, debt, money management, savings & investment services.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS & TRAINING:
    Must be available to work some evenings and weekends, as needed.


    POST HIRE:
    Must successfully obtain FEC (Financial Empowerment Center) Certification within 60 days from hire date.

    This includes passing the CFE Fund-administered exam by receiving a weighted average of 70% or above across Exams Part 1, 2 and 3; Complete all FEC-specific trainings; and supplemental training.


    IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL POSSESS THE FOLLOWING :
    Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college with aconcentration

    preferably

    in social work, business, accounting, finance, or a related field.
    Three (3) years of experience with background in social service delivery, community engagement/outreach, financial education, counseling/coaching, or related field.
    A combination of education and experience may be considered.
    Bilingual at a conversational level,

    highly preferred .

    ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS INLCUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO :

    Provide individualized financial counseling sessions (including both initial and follow-up sessions) and achieve client outcomes.
    Assess client needs and develop individual financial action plans with each client.
    Make appropriate referrals and integrate other wraparound supports (i.e., benefits, tax preparation) into counseling to achieve greater results.
    Collect, track and report required data using a client management database.
    Participate in initial trainings and ongoing professional development trainings.

    This may include role-playing exercises, practical/experiential learning activities, job shadowing counselors during real counseling sessions, participate in co-counselling opportunities, etc.
