Serve as the department lead assisting the supervisor to ensure effective operation of CCHC Laboratories sites. Provides high level of customer and patient service. Collects and processes lab specimens via phlebotomy, and performs EKGs. Admits patient demographic information and lab orders into the LIS.


Description:


  • Serve as a staff resource, coaching, directing and supporting coworkers to uphold service standards and established policies and procedures.
  • Assist supervisor with activities related to the daily operations of the Patient Service Center coordinating an efficient patient flow. Responsible to provide good customer service as the front line support staff for the laboratory.
  • Serve as a professional role model to help maintain a harmonious, professional, and productive work environment. Communicate professionally and confidentially with patients, clients and staff members.
  • Must maintain a thorough knowledge of CCHC Laboratories' policies/procedures.
  • Resolve lab outreach issues as needed.
  • Successfully collect blood samples from both ambulatory and bed ridden patients utilizing venipuncture sticks, fingersticks and heelsticks.
  • Obtain throat culture swabs and verbally instruct patients on collecting samples at home, ie. stools and 24 hour urines.
  • Process laboratory specimens according to the test methodology guidelines for the appropriate testing site; centrifuging samples, pouring off serum or plasma, keeping samples at optimum temperature for accurate results to be achieved.
  • Properly register patient demographic information into the LIS. Information must be complete and accurate ensuring adequate information at time of service for services to be billed.
  • Transfer physician orders for lab work into the LIS accurately and on the correct patient account. Responsible to see that patient signatures are on the requisition and when appropriate on ABN's.
  • Performs EKGs on scheduled patients, accurately placing leads and obtaining printouts to be professionally read by physicians. (Location dependent)
  • Have knowledge of working multiple CCHC Laboratories Patient Service Centers. Must be able to open and close each site.
  • Communicate with clients via telephone to ensure proper specimen identity, correct patient information and proper diagnoses, as well as give physicians results on their patients.
  • Able to handle specimen problems with appropriate training, as well as informing a supervisor of a problem needing management involvement.
  • Is responsible to perform an occasional stat draw at a nursing home, a patient home or physician office when designated by management.
  • Responsible to be on a rotation for On-Call to cover emergency draws for nursing home coverage. Coverage begins at 5 pm week day evenings until 10pm, Monday
  • Friday, and on Saturday and Sundays, 7am10pm.
  • Responsible to fill out or oversee supply orders for Patient Service Centers as designated by Region Supervisor.
  • Responsible to keep phlebotomy areas well stocked, including the stock room.
  • Responsible for daily maintenance and safety of all drawing rooms, including but not limited to cleaning workbench and drawing chairs daily.
  • Other job duties as directed by a supervisor or manager.

Qualifications:


  • Outreach Staff Leader(s) will typically have a minimum of three years phlebotomy experience and preferably at least one year required CCHC Laboratories experience. Must have demonstrated leadership and teambuilding skills. Strong organizational, communication and problem solving skills are essential. A certificate in phlebotomy preferred (or other field where phlebotomy training was required). Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Good employment standing at CCHC Laboratories (satisfactory performance and attendance). Preceptor and/or mentor experience required. Ability to work a "modified float" schedule (flexible schedule assigned three (3) weeks in advance may be changed by supervisor/manager with mutual consent).
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License upon hire. Must obtain Massachusetts specific Driver's License within 60 days of hire.
  • Acceptable driving record in accordance with the Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) criteria will be obtained as a precondition to begin employment.
  • Successfully complete CCHC Laboratories' Driver Safety Training Program at least once every two years.
