    Job Title: Cook at The Salvation Army

    About the Position

    As a Cook at The Salvation Army, you will work alongside the Lead Cook, following guidelines from a Kitchen supervisor. Your main responsibilities will include planning and preparing three nutritious meals and one snack daily for residents. Additionally, you will be in charge of maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in food preparation areas, as well as assisting with ordering and inventory tasks. Moreover, you will contribute to transporting meals to another location.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Prepare daily meals and snacks for residents with attention to quality and presentation.
    • Follow set menus, respecting meal times to ensure timely food delivery.
    • Adapt meals based on specific dietary requirements as needed.
    • Maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and compliance with health regulations.
    • Manage food preparation effectively to control costs and portions.
    • Keep all food preparation areas and equipment clean and organized.
    • Monitor and report equipment and food storage temperatures.
    • Manage inventory and provide weekly supply lists to the Supervisor.
    • Receive and organize deliveries efficiently.
    • Participate in workshops and staff meetings as required.
    • Maintain positive relationships with staff, volunteers, and visitors.
    • Perform additional duties assigned by management.
    • Uphold a respectful and courteous attitude towards colleagues and clients.
    • Follow schedules and directives from Operations Manager or Director.

    Requirements

    • Understanding of Health Department sanitation standards.
    • Certified food handler under the California Safety Code.
    • Prior experience in kitchen/food service is essential.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
    • Hold valid CPR and First Aid Certificates, TB clearance required.

    • Excellent communication skills for internal and external interactions.
    • Strong organizational skills and adherence to deadlines.
    • Demonstrated work ethic and efficiency in task completion.
    • Successful background check completion.

    Working Conditions

    This role requires physical abilities such as standing, bending, lifting, and operating various equipment. The capacity to handle up to 50 lbs of weight is necessary.
