    Description


    Under the supervision of a Radiologist, operates Mammographic Imaging Equipment and performs specialized examinations of the breast to help in the diagnosis and treatment of breast disease in female patients.

    Provide leadership in the absence of a supervisor.

    • Performs Mammographic procedures to include screening, diagnostic, and stereotactic.
    • Applies the necessary technical judgment to obtain studies of an acceptable diagnostic quality according to written protocols and the patients' needs.
    • Operates digital imaging equipment using established ACR and FDA guidelines along with imaging protocols set within the mammography program.
    • Assists, prepares and positions patients as required to perform breast imaging procedures.
    • Provides patient education relevant to specific imaging procedures by informing the patient of the nature of the procedure, the area to be imaged and any specific instructions the patient may need.
    • Ensures all radiographic images are appropriately labeled as specified by the department SOP.
    • Performs non-disciplinary job duties of the supervisor as required.
    • Assigns break and mealtime coverage.
    • Delegates responsibility to staff as appropriate.
    • Provides leadership and direction to support personnel in the absence of a supervisor.
    • Participates in the training and continued development of staff.
    • Performs daily, weekly, monthly and semi-annual QC functions, related to mammography, to ensure compliance with MQSA and ACR.
    • Evaluates images for technical acceptability, obtains additional images as needed, and ensures images are transmitted to PACS in a timely fashion.
    • Determines if the procedure was sufficient, or if additional imaging procedures are needed; consult with
    radiologist as necessary.


    • Provides images, data analysis, and patient information to the physician for diagnostic interpretation.
    • Assists physician directly as required.
    • Able to assist with invasive procedures as needed.
    • Prepares sterile fields and trays pertinent to particular breast imaging procedures
    • Performs preparation of breast biopsies and needle localizations and accessories required to assist the physician in performing procedures
    • Maintains statistical reports for inspections by DOH, MQSA.
    • Completes all documentation, including computerized documentation.
    • Ensures Radiology room and equipment cleanliness, at the start and at the end of the shift, to include removal of soiled or dirty linen.
    • Performs related clerical duties in the absence of support personnel.
    • Maintains supplies and accessories in radiographic room necessary to safely perform duties, as required.
    • Accurately records all required patient tracking information into IDX (Radiology Information System).
    • Informs supervisor or appropriate personnel of needed repairs to equipment or unsafe conditions.
    • Prevents the spread of infection to self, patients, visitors, and other employees by adhering to infection control policies and protocol.
    • Attends in-services and other professional development meetings as required.
    Qualifications

    Minimum Education:
    High school graduate. Graduate of an AMA/J.C.E.R.T. approved program in Radiologic Technology.

    Minimum Related Experience:
    Minimum of five years as a radiological technologist.

    Minimum Licensing Requirements:
    New York State License (L.R.T.).

    Minimum Certification Requirements:
    American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Mammography Registered or Eligible. (ARRT- M)

    Continuing Education:
    MQSA/FDA- 15 CEUs every 3 years, 200-documented case numbers every 2 years.


    Computer Skills:
    Basic computer experience.


    General Skills:
    Good interpersonal and communication skills. Knowledge of anatomy, physiology and positioning.


    Describe Work Environment:
    Strenuous Physical Activity (e.g., frequent and sustained lifting, carrying, etc.)

    Potential exposure to radiation.

    The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements.

    The salary range for the role is $ $ Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need.
