    Job Description and Duties

    Engineering Geologists in the Southern Region Office assist the Department, other agencies, and the public with technical studies, data collection and distribution, and respond to requests for geological and hydrological information. They collaborate with other public agencies.

    Under general supervision of the Hydrogeology Section Manager, the successful candidate will assist with geological, hydrogeological, and engineering geological investigations, supporting efforts with DWR Regional Offices, the Sustainable Water Management Office, and the Division of Engineering. The role involves a mix of office work (in a hybrid telework setup) and project-specific fieldwork. Office tasks include data collection and evaluation, geological field study planning, technical document writing, and groundwater sustainability plan reviews. Fieldwork responsibilities comprise overseeing drilling, collecting formation samples, constructing wells, measuring groundwater levels, and water quality sampling.

    Additional office tasks involve public engagement, equipment procurement, data management, describing geological and hydrogeological features, map preparation, and database maintenance. Fieldwork may include installing and maintaining pressure transducers and telemetry equipment, geophysical logging, and site investigations.

    This position involves thorough data management, collaboration in a team setting, attending in-person and virtual meetings, driving, fieldwork, travel to meetings and training, and overnight stays.

    Special Requirements

    Possession of a valid California driver's license is necessary to operate a State vehicle on public roads for meetings and field visits. Ability to travel occasionally, on short notice, and stay overnight for multiple consecutive days at field locations is essential.
