Description
of Duties:
- The Cable Plant Technician supports the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) on the Integrated Research and Development for
- Install, terminate, test, and certify copper and fiber optic cable transport systems.
- Travel CONUS and OCONUS to install, terminate, test, and certify copper and fiber optic cable transports systems
- Repair and/or replace failed cable distribution and related equipment.
- Use basic cable installation hand tools including Uni-Cam termination equipment, hot melt fiber termination equipment,
- CAT6 termination equipment, wire strippers, punch down tools and CAT6/Fiber Optic test equipment.
- Terminate and install fiberoptic cable with LC, SC or ST connectors (utilizing Uni-Cam or hot melt method), CAT6, RGB
- Act as team lead as assigned, supporting breakfix/troubleshooting efforts as well as minor to major ISP renovation/
- Maintain and troubleshoot site cable plant infrastructure.
- Review project documentation and conduct site surveys to develop a plan and schedule to support successful project
- Perform cable moves, adds, install and changes, and update documentation to reflect the location of current and future
- Work trouble tickets generated through Remedy.
- Be able to adapt to new situations quickly.
- Have a strong commitment to a team environment.
- Be able to work with little supervision.
- Exhibit a willingness to learn new technologies.
- Be able to communicate effectively with varied audiences.
- This position can be filled at Schriever SFB, Colorado Springs, CO.
- This position is expected to pay $55,000 $80,000 annually; depending on experience, education, and any certifications
Requirements:
Basic Requirements:
- Must have one of the following combinations of education and experience: HS Diploma (or GED) and 1 year of general
- Must have 2 years of related experience in codes and standards, media and connectors, structured cabling systems,
- planning and project management, safety, and fire stopping systems
- Environments to include data centers, raised floor and overhead spaces
- Must have experience working with Microsoft Office products such as Excel, Word and Outlook
- Desired Requirements:Be BICSI Cabling Installation Certified
