Summary:


  • Provide a safe, secure and positive environment for juveniles detained in the Juvenile Detention Center.
  • Supervise the activities of juveniles in the course of meeting their educational, emotional, recreational, disciplinary, and basic child care needs.
  • Supervise family visitation and documents juveniles' behavior and adaptation to a secure, supervised setting on a daily basis.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Maintains safe, secure and positive environment, while meeting the educational, emotional, recreational, disciplinary, and basic needs of each detainee
  • Provides individual and group counseling for detainees
  • Provides discipline when detainees violate rules and may restrain youth who are out of control
  • Intervenes in aggressive and selfinjurious behaviors with crisis intervention, counseling, and physical and mechanical restraint
  • Supervises the personal grooming, hygienic activities and housekeeping tasks of detained youth
  • Maintains security of residents and facility through regular accounting of population and materials as well as search of juveniles
  • Conducts facilitywide and personal searches for contraband
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

TO APPLY, must have a
Bachelor's degree + 1,750 hours of work experience in
casework, counseling, community or group work or related experience in a
social service, community, corrections, or juvenile agency that deals with offenders or disadvantaged persons

  • OR
  • TO APPLY, must have a
    One (1) year fulltime graduate study (30 hours)
    in criminology, corrections, counseling, law, social work, psychology or a related field.
  • TO APPLY, must have a
    valid Driver License and proof of automobile liability insurance
Note:

_A Texas driver license is required to hold the position_.

  • Applicants who graduate from a foreign school must present written documentation that validates their education as meeting the standards of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) from a Texas Juvenile Justice Department approved service._


Ability to obtain and maintain current certification for Texas Juvenile Detention Officer, Texas Juvenile Probation Officer, First Aid, CPR, and Non-Violent Restraint with annual renewal required.


  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • If hired, must provide proof of educational attainment
- at New Hire Processing or during the promotional process.
  • Tarrant County will conduct background checks on new hires that will include a criminal background check related to convictions and deferred adjudications in the past seven years and may include credit reports, motor vehicle records, employment records and educational attainment. A conviction or deferred adjudication is not an automatic bar to employment. Each case is considered individually._

Physical Demands and Work Environment & Other Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to walk, sit, stand, bend, stoop and lift. Exposure to communicable and contagious diseases; potential for physical and mechanical restraint situations involving juveniles who are violent and self-destructive.
Regular attendance is essential. Incumbent must arrive at work on time, prepared to perform assigned duties and work assigned schedule. Incumbent must have the ability to work well with others.

Incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the position without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of themselves and others.
