We are seeking a
_Master's Administrative Apprenticeship_ who will provide professionally supervised, consistent, and comprehensive exposure to the administrative roles and functions of Student Affairs offices.

They generally do not involve direct service to students but are designed to learn how a functional area is organized and accomplishes its mission and goals.

This is the required, formal administrative apprenticeship accompanied by a supervised seminar with reading and learning assignments that takes place in the summer.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Scheduling appointments with other staff in and out of the functional area, attending staff meetings, reading literature or materials that are circulated, and shadowing the apprenticeship supervisor to specific programs/events/activities to understand the nature of the work in that functional area.
  • Engaging in a regular activity that results in meaningful involvement (i.e., working with and/or advising students) and/or a project that could be done on site or independently (i.e., designing a workshop, writing a proposal, editing publications, conducting a research study or needs assessment).
  • Seeking supervision, guidance, and instruction from a supervisor who can support the student's educational and professional development.
  • Based on the CAS standards for master's preparation programs, students are required to complete 120 to 180 semester hours of experience, including the hours spent in class (e.g., 15 weeks x [3hour seminar + 8 hours on site] = 165 hours)._

  • Helps students who are struggling with nonacademic issues like mental/physical help, communication with instructors, family emergencies, financial issues, interpersonal issues, etc.

  • Career Services for Masters engineering students.
  • Student Affairs community building (event planning, workshops, affinity groups, etc.) for all populations.
  • Potential Apprenticeship Projects_
  • Create a hub of resources for students on our website. Not just Hopkins resources but also tips for financial planning, time management, study skills, keeping up with cleaning, etc. Make it accessible and help us figure out how best to utilize it.
  • Go through ESSA's Case Management database to evaluate and assess data. Provide feedback on current assessment plan and add to it.
  • Learn about Case Management in higher education, read research, and meet with team regularly to learn about student cases and strategies.
  • Assist Student Affairs in preparation for upcoming academic year's events.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.
  • Six months related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
  • JHU

Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.

For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
