Since the 1893 World Columbian Exposition, our organization has aimed to connect people to the natural environment and human history.


The Adult Learning Experiences Administrator is a full-time position that will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of Adult Learning events and programs.

The Administrator will work closely with the Manager of Family Learning Experiences to design, coordinate, and implement onsite, inclusive learning experiences for adult audiences throughout the year, as well as the hiring, training, and coordination of program-related temporary staff and contractors.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Develop, coordinate, and implement learning events for adults throughout the year
  • Supervise up to 25 staff, contractors, and volunteers per event and serve as point person for the events, including overnight staff when applicable.
  • Welcome all participants (up to 950) per event
  • Ensure all setups and operations are in place throughout the evening
  • Communicate directly with participants
  • Stay overnight when applicable
  • Works closely with Learning Operations Coordinator for all ticketing and registrations, reporting, and general customer service needs
  • Ensure a safe and healthy program environment
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement onsite, inclusive learning experiences and programming designed for adults throughout the year
  • Research and develop new engaging adult learning opportunities that utilize and spotlight the collections, exhibitions, and expertise of the Field Museum staff
  • In coordination with the Manager of Family Learning Experiences, set program goals and strategies, including content priorities, calendar of programs, target audience, communications, and evaluation
  • Identify and coordinate all resource needs, including spaces, materials, contract/volunteer staffing, and outside vendors
  • Works with Manager of Family Learning Experiences to assist in the hiring, training, and scheduling of Adult Learning event staff as needed
  • Establish and maintain organizational systems for program coordination and research
  • With the Manager of Family Learning Experiences, set implementation plans, including a calendar of program deadlines, balance short and longterm goals and overlapping timelines, and identify resource needs.
  • Review and refine processes that support program and departmental goals as needed
  • Assists Manager of Family Learning Experiences in communications and marketing for advertisement content and strategy as well as the web team for registration on program webpages
  • Assist with general Family Learning needs
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:


  • A B.A. is required; M.S. Ed. preferred
  • 35 years of experience in one or a combination of the following is a must classroom teaching at the middle school level, supervising peers, employees, or volunteers, and developing learning experiences for informal environments
  • A passion for the sciences is preferred
  • Ability to work independently and pursue selfdirected projects with attention to detail
  • Knowledge of research in informal education, curriculum and instruction, and/or science/social science education
