Responsible for machinist projects in the university machine shop, including operate shop equipment such as manual lathes and milling machines, and surface grinder.

• Machinist operating equipment in the machine shop.
• Assist FSAE director with various responsibilities.
• Assist with shop operations and personnel.

• High School diploma supplemented by vocational machine shop and technical courses such as mathematics, physics, or blueprint reading.
• Five (5) years of combined experience:
  • As a journeyman machinist or instrument maker, experience operating and maintaining all machines and equipment in the shop, experience designing and manufacturing work holding fixtures.
• Must be able to operate shop equipment such as manual lathes and milling machines, and surface grinder.

• Expert machinist with ten (10) years of experience drill press, micrometers, sine bar and other precision measuring devices.
• Capable of maintaining mills and lathes.
• Capable of operating and maintaining various saws, grinder, sanders, sand blaster, shear and other related equipment.
• Capable of welding (TIG, MIG, and gas). Experience as a lead man or foreman.
• Familiarity with all manual lathes, mills, saws, grinders, welders, and general shop equipment and tools.
• Fluent with all measurement tools.
• Experience working with students and faculty to enhance designs to make manufacturing easier.
• Experience supervising shop operations and personnel.

• Knowledge of Drafting.
• Ability to evaluate mechanical design.
• Excellent shop math skills including trigonometry.
• Ability to schedule and prioritize jobs. Excellent communications skills and temperament to work with students and clients.
• Ability to hold very tight tolerances on machined parts.
• Capability to organize and manage projects from start to finish.
• Ability to function with continuous interruptions.

May be exposed to various hazards including chemicals, chemical fumes, electrical and mechanical hazards and biohazards. May work around standard office conditions. Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation. Frequent use of manual dexterity. Climbing of stairs and ladders. Must be on your feet six hours a day average, be able to lift 50 lbs. safely.
