Minimum Qualifications

Eligible for reassignment, transfer, reachable for appointment from the appropriate eligible list OR must meet the following minimum qualifications:
Must be a qualified employee of New York State and have had one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as follows:

Promotional Qualifications:

Must be a qualified employee of New York State and have had one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as an office assistant, clerical, or keyboarding title allocated to Grade 6 or higher.


Non-Competitive Qualifications:
One year of clerical experience.


At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to complete in an examination.

Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State.

While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.


Duties Description
Office Assistant 2 performs office support and clerical work to meet the requirements of facility programs.

Such work may consist, but not limited to:

data entry, mail, supply and inventory related tasks, keyboarding and other document preparation, answering telephones, completing forms, preparation of reports, charts, graphs, and cover switchboard and AA1 position when needed.

Some positions may require additional credentials or a background check to verify your identity.
