Full Time, 40hrs/wk, Day Shift, Rotating Weekends and Holidays

The Position:


The Lab Point of Care (POC) Technician works in collaboration with the veterinary staff and the Pathology team to provide Angell clientele with high quality clinical and anatomical laboratory services.


These laboratory and hospital services include:

analyzing point of care tests while operating various types of laboratory equipment and entering test results into the laboratory information system and hospital electronic medical record.

The Lab POC Technician operates laboratory equipment and instrumentation including performance of various manual testing methods in accordance with established policies to provide timely and accurate test results.

This position requires interaction and communication between the veterinary staff, CCU staff and laboratory staff.

Computer and clerical skills are required to maintain data for the Laboratory Information System (LIS), lab files and processing of test requests.


Some duties to include:

  • Performs Point of Care testing and moderate to highly complex analysis of biological materials. Testing includes analysis of not only patient specimens but also proficiency samples, quality control (QC) material and calibration of methods, equipment and instruments.
  • Assists in the oversight of the hospital QC program by preparing samples, coordinating and correlating data and assisting departments in need of training across the various areas of the hospital that perform laboratory testing.
  • Processes and performs microbiological testing and identification of microorganisms for various source types.
  • Evaluates patient test results to verify validity of results and identify and resolve any inconsistencies in patient results. Provides clinical expertise to the patient care staff with the interpretation of results and/or complex laboratory problems.
  • Operates, maintains, troubleshoots and resolves issues with laboratory instrumentation, equipment and test assays. Documents minor repairs and maintenance procedures. Consistently uses available resources to maintain and repair instruments or problem solves assay issues. Communicates laboratory instrumentation issues to laboratory management as needed.
  • Processes and prepares specimens for analysis. Determines requirements and suitability of specimens for analysis and maintains track of specimens from receipt in the laboratory to reporting of results.
  • Accessions and invoices patient samples as needed; performs any processes necessary to render the sample ready for onsite or reference laboratory testing/analysis and maintains proper preanalytical and postanalytical storage of specimens.

APPLICANT REQUIREMENTS:


Education:
Associates or Bachelors in a science related field preferred.


Experience:
Previous Lab experience preferred, previous histology and or grossing experience preferred.
