The Research Scientist, under general supervision, designs, performs and analyzes experiments. Mentors students on analyzing and preparing data results.
What you need to know
Salary:
Compensation will be commensurate to the selected hire's experience.
Required Education and Experience:
- Appropriate PhD
- Six years of relevant professional experience
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Supervisory skills
- Prior experience with electrophysiology and/or imaging
Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD or M.D
- Education in Neuroscience or a closely related field
- Experience in data collection, analysis
- Grant writing experience
- Data analytical skills, including the use of Matlab and python
- Manuscript preparation and ability to communicate research results clearly.
Responsibilities:
Experiments
- Designs, performs, and analyzes experiments consistent with project objectives.
- Conducts independent research aligned with the TAMUS member's mission.
- Develops procedures to improve efficiency and accuracy of data collection and analyses.
Data collection and analysis
- Keeps detailed records of procedures and data.
- Identifies, assimilates, and synthesizes data needed for computer models and manages databases relating to statistical and related software.
- Maintains expertise with the latest hardware and software technologies for statistical and numerical data analyses.
Manuscript and Grant Preparation
- Prepares data for publication and presentation.
- Writes grants and proposals to acquire external funding.
- Keeps uptodate on scientific research via reading of literature, etc.
- Attends scientific meetings and seminars for research enhancement.
- Validates strategic decisionaid models.
Lab Management
- Assists with lab maintenance
- Mentors students on analyzing and preparing data results.
- Coordinates laboratory activities.
- Maintains laboratory instrumentation and follows applicable safety standards.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
