Description
JOB SUMMARYThe Pharmacist 4 is responsible for development, oversight, and documentation for specialist's area. Develops new and existing pharmaceutical care activities that are patient centered and cost-effective. Serves as a resource for pharmacists and technicians and may provide pharmaceutical care to patients. Serves in an enterprise role to support system pharmacy initiatives.
The expectation of the role will be to leverage pharmacist expertise to optimize the electronic health record (e.g. Epic) with a predominant focus being pharmacy ambulatory and outpatient retail settings. Prior experience in informatics/IT work is strongly preferred but not required.
The informatics pharmacist will be responsible for understanding the various workflows employed by the pharmacy service line and will be instrumental in evaluating appropriateness of requests made to change those workflows and lead to overall standardization across the enterprise.
The role has overlap with other service lines and inpatient/acute care services. Understanding the interplay of these groups will be critical to success in the role.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Develops core strategies and recommends best practices related to the specialist's area.
Assists in the preparation and implementation of facility policy and procedures as needed.
Maintains effective communication with facility directors and leadership teams on opportunities in the specialist's area.
Assists in the development of specialized area management teams and participates in meetings as needed.
Assists in preparation and implementation of pharmacy staff competencies and staff development.
Develops rotations for pharmacy students and/or residents in specialist's area.
Provides educational services to Medical, Pharmacy, Nursing or other personnel through formal and informal presentations or written publications.
Performs the work of a pharmacist, as required.
Fulfills and provides proof of continuing education, licensure, and/or certifications required to remain qualified for this role.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
Advanced understanding of Pharmacy Care modalities, pharmaceutical calculations, therapies, terminology, drug use and aseptic techniques, standards, medications and equipment.
General computer skills, including but not limited to: using required software applications, data entry, information security, electronic medical documentation, hand held scanning and email.
Ability to understand, optimize and document complex processes.
Must be able to communicate thoughts clearly; both verbally and in writing.
Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and regulatory requirements.
