    Location Smyrna, GA (Metro Atlanta) Project/Unit Description The Sensors & Electromagnetic Applications Laboratory (SEAL) of the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is seeking engineers and scientists who are interested in a research career focused on the development of modern tracking and sensor fusion algorithms
    As a researcher in the Air & Missile Defense Division (AMDD), candidates will support the assessment, improvement, and development of state-of-the-art tracking algorithms applied in Army and Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) radars
    Researchers will also focus on the interplay between associated command and control, battle management, and communication systems as part of the BMD tracking enterprise
    In supporting this research, candidates will have exposure to all aspects of modern phased array radar systems

    Job Purpose The Algorithm & Analysis Engineer is responsible for the development and support of state-of-the-art algorithms involving data fusion, sensor fusion, machine learning, manned/unmanned avionics improvement programs, and genetic programming
    The Algorithm & Analysis Engineer focuses on the design, analysis, software/hardware implementation, optimization, profiling, and experimental evaluation of computer algorithms, bridging the gap between algorithm theory and practical applications of algorithms in software engineering
    Additionally, the Algorithm & Analysis Engineer conducts statistical analysis of multi-modal and time-varying data to characterize and quantify system qualities and deficiencies, resulting in recommendations and development of improvements
    Key Responsibilities


    • Perform data cleaning and fundamental data analysis, with guidance only as needed, generating new tools with significant reusability.
    • Design and execute algorithm tests with limited oversight.
    • Serve in a leading role in algorithm design discussions for defined portions of programs.
    • Design larger portions of algorithms and testing with minimal oversight
    • Lead sections of technical report execution
    • Lead discussions with sponsors for large portions of research
    • Work with independence at sponsor sites under guidance of technical leads
    • Materially contribute to discussions for technical journal articles and conference presentations
    • Conduct literature searches related to research focus areas.
    • Mentor student researchers and facilitate their technical development and tasking
    Additional Responsibilities


    • Developing target tracking and track fusion algorithms.
    • Developing Matlab based models of the target, radar, and tracking algorithms.
    • Developing track metrics and assessing track performance.
    • Briefing sponsors on a regular basis.
    • Documenting research in briefings, papers, and reports
    Required Minimum Qualifications


    • Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited degree program relevant to this position will be considered
    The candidate must have a graduation date of no later than May 2024.


    • Research experience in target tracking Preferred Qualifications
    • Active Secret Clearance
    • PhD degree with a minimum of 2 years of work experience in target tracking.
    • Personal experience developing tracking algorithms for Ballistic Missile Defense applications
