Recreation**
FSLA CLASS: Non-Exempt**
STATUS:Seasonal - Remote/Hybrid**
SALARY RANGE:$30 hourly**
JOB SUMMARY:Under the direct supervision of the Recreation Superintendent, this position performs responsible professional work providing outreach and promotion of programs and services of the District through various methods and media to support the growth and expansion of recreation facilities, programs, and services.

Additionally, this position develops, implements, and administers a sponsorship program aimed at businesses that wish to gain further community exposure.

The Recreation Specialist is expected to work effectively under mínimal supervision and work within a framework of standard District policies and procedures.

This position may assist with the supervision and evaluation of the work of non-exempt part-time and seasonal staff and volunteers.


EXAMPLE OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Effectively markets and promotes Department programs, activities, special events, facilities, etc. through various methods.
  • Serves as media relations liaison for departmental activities; coordinates photo and feature story opportunities to broaden the Department's outreach reach.
  • Develops and markets a comprehensive sponsorship program and secures sponsorship dollars and inkind services to offset identified programs and services costs.
  • Manages distribution of outreach materials into the community.
  • Maintains a variety of statistical and usage records and prepares simple statistical reports.
  • Files, proofreads, checks, and records information and district outreach materials.
  • Identifies appropriate media channels to expand department reach and tailors campaigns to the appropriate target audience.
  • Coordinates with the Communications & Marketing Department the release of PSA's, news releases, videos, etc.
  • Collects and analyzes social media data to guide outreach efforts. Analyzes program registration and participation data to guide outreach efforts.
  • Evaluates customer satisfaction through survey design, data collection, research, and analysis.
  • Coordinates the Districts presence on the web by working with other District employees.
  • Ensures that assigned web pages are accurate, attractive, timely and complete.
  • Assists with special events, programs and special projects as needed.
  • Acquires photos and maintains a comprehensive and evolving photo library.
  • Coordinates and/or attends community outreach events as a Parks & Recreation representative.
  • Writes article submissions for industry publications.
  • Develops policies and procedures related to Parks & Recreation outreach and promotion.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:


Education and Experience Guidelines:

Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

A typical path to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:


  • A minimum of two years' experience in personal computers, using Microsoft Office, Canva and Web based software.
  • Two years of responsible office support experience.
- completion of an Bachelors degree or above from an accredited college or university in business or public administration, Recreation management or closely related field.


Knowledge of:


  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices associated with outreach and public relations, to include social media platforms.
  • Thorough knowledge of personal computers and graphic design software and systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of Internet and web design.
  • Knowledge of Parks & Recreation objectives, procedures, policies, programs, services, events and facilities.
  • Thorough knowledge of research and analysis methods and techniques.
  • Knowledge of District policies, procedures, operations, and programs of the district functions, operations, and policies of the district community centers.
  • General office practices, procedures, clerical methods, and techniques including business English and basic math. Reading, writing, and speaking English at a level required for successful job performance including proper grammar, punctuation, spelling, and word usage.

Ability to:


  • Ability to communicate ideas effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Demonstrated comfort and competence in making presentations or announcements to large groups.
  • Ability to identify appropriate businesses, individuals or services for sponsorship of programs and services, and meet sponsorship goals set with supervisor.
  • Ability to work without direct supervision in a network of divisions and departments.
  • Work in a professional manner, including proper attire.
