GENERAL SUMMARY:


Under the direction of the facility Supervisor(s) or on-duty Supervisor, the Assistant Supervisor is responsible for the direction and supervision of staff employees of the Residential Program; and assists in the overall administration and management of DSD.

A minimum of 80% of work time is spent in direct individual contact.

Assigned duties are implemented in a manner appropriate to the age-specific needs of the individuals served.

Residential Program staff (6-12 directly).


EDUCATION:

High school diploma or equivalent required.


WORK EXPERIENCE:

Three (3) years experience working with intellectually disabled individuals preferred.


SPECIAL EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

Must be cleared by PA State Police criminal history check.

CPR certification must be obtained and maintained.

Must pass post job offer, pre-placement physical exam; and initial and subsequent annual TB screenings.


Good verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills required for effective communication with individuals on caseload, families, outside agency representatives and program staff.

Knowledge of counseling skills and behavioral intervention techniques required.

Must successfully complete Allied's Driver Training Program, as stated by policy #2.43, including vision and hearing screenings.

Valid PA driver's license required for travel to fulfill responsibilities, i.e., individual programming, transport, and appointments.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


Moderate work:

duties require exerting up to 25 lbs of force occasionally (approximately 10-33% of shift) and/or up to 10 lbs of force frequently (approximately 33-66% of shift).

Must be able to assist with individual transfers to and from wheelchairs, beds, toilet facilities, ambulation difficulties and seizures.

Position involves working in bending, stooping and twisting positions.


Must have ability to attend to various emergency and other individual medical needs in various program locations as situations demand.

Must be able to travel to various program locations as needed.

Position involves implementing IBP's and crisis intervention i.e., physical redirection, restraint, and techniques for protection of self and others.

Sight, hearing, and speech sufficient to effectively communicate with individuals required.


ACCIDENT OR HEALTH HAZARDS:

Position requires occasional crisis intervention.

Position involves occupational exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials.

Position involves frequent work in and around bathroom/shower areas where floors may become wet.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

Residential setting for intellectually disabled individuals.

Position involves participation in indoor and outdoor activities during all seasons of the year.

Occasionally environment may be noisy and distracting.
