    We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced individual to serve as the Director of Medical for our professional soccer team. As the Director of Medical, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the team's sports medicine department, including injury prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, player wellness, and league standards of care. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in sports medicine, exceptional leadership skills, and a passion for optimizing player health and performance.

    This is a full-time role in San Diego, California. Depending upon education, skill set, and experience, the annual base salary range is $120K - $150K.

    ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1. Medical Team Leadership: Lead and manage the medical team, including physical therapist, athletic trainers, and other medical personnel, ensuring a collaborative, and effective approach to player care.
    2. Injury Prevention and Management: In conjunction with the team physical therapist and athletic trainers, continue to grow and refine the comprehensive injury prevention program, including pre-season screenings, individualized performance preparation programing, and daily injury risk assessments.
    3. Physical Therapy: Oversee and assist in the rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries and conditions of players. Coordinate evaluations, rehabilitation, plan of care, progress notes, and discharge notes on all players. These notes must be kept on file in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
    4. Injury Diagnosis and Treatment: Oversee the timely and accurate diagnosis and treatment of player injuries, collaborating with Physical Therapist, Athletic Trainers, team physicians and specialists as needed.
    5. Return to Sport: Oversee the return to play/sport process for injured players, developing individualized treatment plans and monitoring progress to ensure a safe and efficient reintegration into training, games and eventually performance while mitigating risk of re-injury.     6. Sports Science Integration: Work closely with the sports science department to integrate data-driven approaches to injury prevention, performance optimization, and recovery strategies.
    7. Emergency Medical Preparedness: Ensure the team is prepared to respond to medical emergencies during training sessions, matches, and travel, including the provision of emergency medical supplies and training for medical personnel.
    8. Medical Records and Documentation: Maintain accurate medical records for all players, ensuring compliance with league regulations and confidentiality requirements.
    9. Player Education: Provide education and resources to players and coaching staff on injury prevention strategies, recovery techniques, and overall health and wellness.
    10. Collaborative Approach: Collaborate with coaching staff, performance department, and other stakeholders to develop integrated strategies for optimizing player health, performance, and longevity.
    11. Adapt quickly as business needs evolve.
    QUALIFIED?
    • National Physical Therapy Exam (NPTE)
    • California state license; in good standing with the state licensure board
    • CPR certification in basic life support
    • Residency trained
    • Board certified as a Sports Clinical Specialist (SCS) or Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist (OCS)
    • Additional recommended certifications: BOC Certified Athletic Trainer, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Corrective Exercise Specialization (NASM-CES) and/or Performance Enhancement Specialization (NASM-PES)
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in sports medicine, with a focus on professional or elite-level athletes.
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a physical therapist since receiving licensure
    • Master's degree (MPT) or Doctor of Physical Therapy degree (DPT)
    • Strong leadership and management skills, with experience leading a multidisciplinary medical team.
    • In-depth knowledge of sports injuries, treatments, and rehabilitation protocols, particularly related to soccer.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with players, coaching staff, and other stakeholders.
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment, with a flexible and adaptable approach to work.
    • A passion for soccer and a commitment to the health and well-being of players.
    • Exceptional at building relationships both internally and externally.
    • Professional, positive, and proactive.
