THE POSITION:


Make a long-lasting difference in the treatment of individuals who are healing from substance abuse Come join the team at the Department of Corrections, State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Phoenix in caring for the rehabilitation of the inmates.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK:


  • By providing the professional planning of casework and counseling services, you will help with the care, treatment and rehabilitation of individuals with drug, alcohol, and substance abuse and dependence problems. As a Drug and Alcohol Treatment Specialist 2, you will use your knowledge to assist inmates in overcoming their anxieties, obtain their cooperation in the continuance of their treatment services, and discuss any other issues related to their ongoing recovery. You will also prepare case summaries when requested for parole and prerelease processing regarding inmates' recommendations, participation and progress.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:


  • Fulltime employment, 40 hours per week.
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday
  • Friday, with a 30minute lunch.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 5

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY:


QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:


  • One year of paraprofessional and one year of professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting; and certification by the PA Chemical Abuse Certification Board as a "Certified Addictions Counselor";
    or:
  • One year of experience as a Drug and Alcohol Treatment Specialist 1;_ _
    or:
  • Two years of professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting; and a bachelor's degree that includes 18 credits in the behavioral sciences;**_ _
    or:
  • One year of professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting and a master's degree with major coursework in addictions science, psychology or social work;_ _
    or:
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 18 college credits in the behavioral sciences.

Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
