BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is seeking a biometrician to coordinate and facilitate data collection and analysis of biological data to inform management decisions for Maine's wildlife.

The position is located within the Game Research and Management Section and is based in the Department's Augusta office.


This position provides guidance on study design, methodology, and data needs including data collection, storage, and management and conducts diverse and complex statistical and spatial analyses, designs databases, and develops population and other relevant models using a variety of data sources.

This position will be part of a team of knowledgeable biologists in the Department's Wildlife Division and Game Research and Management Section


Responsibilities include:

  • Operating and maintaining the Game Section's harvest registration database, ArcGIS harvest dashboard, and deer and moose lotteries.
  • Developing and maintaining geospatial and biological databases.
  • Assisting biologists with study and database design, statistical approaches and analysis, and interpretation of scientific data.
  • Analysis of complex scientific and spatial data.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Advanced education and/or experience in statistics, collection, and analysis of natural resources/biology/health or related field.

The individual in this position must have an advanced knowledge of statistics and statistical analysis as well as research and biometric interpretation.

  • An advanced education in natural resources, biology, or health
  • Knowledge of GIS and spatial analysis
  • Knowledge of sexagekill models, spatial capturerecapture models, and integrated population models
  • Fluency in MS Office Suite, R, and Survey 12

  • Please summarize your skills and experience with database design/development and management. Give examples of software used, analysis conducted, and reports generated.
  • Provide examples of specific programs you have written (specify languages). Describe their basic function.
