We are the third largest state maintained highway system in the country, maintaining over 58,000 miles of roads, bridges, and tunnels, employing over 7000 people through a diverse workforce consisting of classified and hourly employees.
Are you interested in Civil Rights? Are you ready to jumpstart your career? The Virginia Department of Transportation's Civil Rights Division is seeking to fill a part-time Administrative Assistant position.
Minimum Qualifications
- An interest in Civil Rights as a career or a desire to learn more
- Excellent typing and oral/written communication skills
- Proficiency with Gmail, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and various office equipment
- Well organized and able to prioritize and meet deadlines
- Ability to work independently or on a team
- Ability to build effective working relationships with others at all levels in the organization
- Ability to perform various administrative tasks such as scheduling, coordinating drafting documents and correspondence, preparing reports and keying sensitive data, proofreading, etc.
- Experience with accounts payable and receivable transactions
- Ability enthusiastically greet visitors, answer phone calls and respond to internal and external customer needs
Additional Considerations
- Strong experience providing administrative support in a face pace environment where attention to detail is a must.
- Some exposure to civil rights professionals, practices and/or processes
Special Instructions
Once onboarded, this position may be eligible for telework opportunities; availability, hours, and duration of telework shall be approved as outlined in the Commonwealth telework policy.

This position requires a fingerprint based Criminal History Background Check, DMV Record Check and Work History Verification with references.
