The Medical Scribe will assist physicians, nurse practitioners and/or physician assistants with various administrative aspects of patient care under the direction of the respective provider.

The administrative aspects include assisting with recording provider medical record documentation (electronic or paper) of patient history, review of systems, physical exam findings, progress notes, procedure notes, follow-up of laboratory and diagnostic results, arranging and expediting consults, and assisting with recording the documentation for patient admission, transfer or discharge plan and follow-up.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Under the direction of the provider
:

Assist providers in charting (electronic or paper) by recording the documentation of an accurate, concise, and complete patient history and review of systems based on patient-provider interactions, recording a physical exam based on a physician's dictation, accurately transferring lab and radiology results from the electronic system or as dictated by physicians, nurse practitioners and/or physician assistants, recording progress or procedures notes, clinical impression, plan and follow-up.


  • Under the direction of the provider
:

Assist providers in managing patient flow by notifying them when the results of laboratory or diagnostic studies are available.


  • Monitor charts to ensure timely completion including history, physical exam, review of systems, labs, diagnostic studies, ECGs, initial assessment and plan, progress notes, procedure notes, impression/diagnosis, discharge plan with disposition, and signatures. Send incomplete charts back to the appropriate providers(s) as needed.
  • Under the direction of the provider
:

Assist in recording the documentation of patient admission, transfer, or discharge plan and follow-up.

  • Navigate electronic records to retrieve previous medical records, prior labs results, etc.
  • Assist supervisor with other administrative duties as needed.
  • Assist with the training of new scribes as needed

Requirements:


  • Ability to expertly document patient care and transcribe patient appointments
  • Assure the accuracy of all documentation and records
  • Advanced computer skills to transcribe and record information across our network
  • Keep the privacy of all patient information that you learn throughout your duties
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to handle highpressure situations effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good bedside manner and interpersonal skills to communicate with patients effectively.

EDUCATION
High school diploma, GED or equivalent


EXPERIENCE
Medical terminology and proven work experience as a Medical Scribe or similar role


PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work requires sitting for long periods of time as well as stooping, bending, and stretching for files and supplies. Occasional lifting of files and paper weighing up to 25 pounds.

Requires moderate typing skills and sufficient manual dexterity to operate a keyboard, calculator, telephone, copier, and such other office equipment as necessary.

Normal or corrected vision to levels for common office work. Hearing within the acceptable range for telephone contacts. It is necessary to view computer screens and type on computer keyboards for long periods of time.
