Overview:
Important Duties:
Public Assistance:
Assists the public, law enforcement, and others by providing procedural information on legal cases, warrants, inmates, and files; explains legal filing processes and departmental operations.
Information Gathering:
Learns booking procedures, solicits information from arrested individuals, computes inmate release dates, checks identification, and admits visitors to detention facilities.
Data Management:
Searches and retrieves information from files and computer systems; releases information and documents according to laws and procedures.
Document Handling:
Accepts, reviews, and certifies legal documents; administers oaths, seals, and stamps documents; calendars cases and court appearances.
Financial Tasks:
Accepts bail bonds and cash bail; records payments; maintains financial records and petty cash.
Court Document Preparation:
Issues legal documents like summonses and subpoenas; prepares court calendars and notices; coordinates document flow for court assignments.
Clerical Duties:
Types, prepares, and files various materials; responds to information requests; handles mail for inmates.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge:
Basic arithmetic, English grammar, vocabulary, spelling, punctuation, composition; general clerical and office practices.
Skills:
Word processing and data processing programs.
Abilities:
Understand and apply statutes, codes, laws, and procedures; maintain legal records; prepare reports; correct technical inaccuracies; work independently; use initiative and discretion; establish cooperative relationships; make accurate arithmetic calculations; operate office equipment.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience providing the necessary knowledge and abilities, typically one year of clerical work experience in a customer service-oriented office.
