EXPECTATION FOR ALL EMPLOYEES:

***: The School Safety Officer will provide support to the instructional process with specific responsibilities for the safety and welfare of students while on school grounds; monitoring personnel and/or visitors; communicating information in response to inquiries; and enforcing the school and District rules and regulations pertaining to student behavior. Patrols and monitors school campus, parking areas, and adjacent areas for unsafe conditions, hazards, illegal acts, suspicious activities, unauthorized persons, or other safety
- related conditions or activities. Provide assistance to the administrative staff in dealing with disciplinary issues on campus.


PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Monitor and enforce safety policies and procedures within the school premises.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections to identify potential hazards and take corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, and other staff to develop and implement safety plans.
  • Provide safety training to staff and students on topics such as emergency evacuation, first aid, and fire safety.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies, accidents, or incidents and take appropriate action.
  • Collaborates at monthly intercampus safety officer meetings.
  • Supports school day release time and supports district athletics as requested.
  • Conducts 120 hours of annual LRE for staff, students, and parents.
  • Member of School and District Safety Committee.
  • Recommends safety protocols for District including Flip Chart update.
  • Coordinates campus safety drills and maintains Safety Calendar.
  • Conducts or participates radio training and other training for all relevant staff as requested by administration.
  • Collaborates with district RN to plan and conduct annual district health/safety fair.
  • Supports truancy reduction efforts.
  • Coordinates with CVUSD transportation department for consistency in rules enforcement, participates in relevant transportation training, rides buses as requested by admin, supports CVUSD transportation department safety protocols/training.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety incidents, investigations, and corrective measures taken.
  • Collaborate with local law enforcement and emergency services as needed.
  • Build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents to promote a culture of safety and security.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:


  • Knowledge of FERPA, Custody/Guardian Paperwork/Rights, CPS, Mandatory Reporting in School.
  • Prior law enforcement experience or similar experience.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations, emergency response procedures, and security systems.
  • Completes annual firearms recertification and maintains records of safety training for all school safety officers.
  • Have personal communication skills and traits that promote a child friendly atmosphere.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and make quick decisions in emergency situations.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to perform tasks that may involve standing, walking, or lifting.
  • Familiarity with relevant software and technology for monitoring and reporting purposes.
  • Spanish speaking individuals are not required but are encouraged.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:


  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Additional education or training in safety management is a plus.
  • Certification in CPR and first aid is desirable.
  • Ability to obtain an IVP (Fingerprint Clearance) Card.

  • Work environment involves no physical risks or hazardous conditions
  • Work environment involves slight physical risks that require basic safety precautions (safety glasses, lab coats, rubber gloves etc.)
  • Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following detailed safety precautions (such as wearing respirators, handling hazardous materials, and working with industrial machinery.)
