Programs and courses are offered in various formats, including traditional on-campus, hybrid, and fully online sections.

In addition to courses at our main campus in Norwalk, we offer classes at multiple educational sites in the area.

The SEM Division provides effective, experiential learning environments in the sciences, engineering, and mathematics at the highest standards by using the latest technology in our state-of-the-art laboratories and learning spaces.


The mission of the Cerritos College Chemistry Department is to provide outstanding Chemistry instruction and support in order to enable students to achieve their academic and career goals, and to promote awareness of and interest in the study of science.

In order to accomplish this mission, we are acutely aware of the diversity of our student population.

Cerritos College students are part-time and full-time workers, recent high school graduates looking to transfer to four-year universities, adults looking for a career change and still other students who are interested in technical careers.

Therefore, we offer a full range of chemistry classes in the day as well as the evening, to students preparing for careers in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, physics, geology, engineering, teaching, nursing, dental hygiene, physical therapy, pharmacy, medicine, dentistry, chiropractic, criminology, forensics, environmental science, forestry, and more.

Moreover, we provide the support services necessary to give our students the best chance to achieve their goals.

Finally, outside of career development, we create an atmosphere that encourages life-long learning and a general awareness of and interest in the study of science.

The Cerritos College Chemistry Department offers transfer level courses in introductory chemistry, general chemistry, organic chemistry, and allied health chemistry.

We offer an Associates of Science degree in Chemistry.

In an effort to provide students with learning experiences that incorporate modern laboratory techniques, advanced instrumentation and advanced technology, department faculty have integrated microscale equipment and techniques in the laboratory and use advanced technology to develop innovative programs for the classroom.

The Cerritos College Chemistry Department vision is to play a leading role in the education of our chemistry students who will be tomorrow's leaders in medicine, education, industry and government.


Job Duties

Job Duties:

ALL FACULTY SHALL:

  • Maintain currency with current information, concepts, laws and ideas in their disciplines and with best practices in teaching and learning.
  • Complete the checkout form before leaving campus at the end of the academic term.
  • Maintain student confidentiality as required by regulation and Board Policy 5040 titled Student Records and Directory Information.

ALL FACULTY WHO ARE ASSIGNED CLASSES SHALL:

  • Teach all assigned classes unless excused under provisions of Board Policy.
  • Teach all assigned classes for all scheduled minutes. In cases of necessary absence from class, notify the Instructional Dean or designee, or if unavailable, the Office of Academic Affairs in advance and have plans prepared so that a substitute, if assigned, can maintain continuity of course content.
  • Teach courses in accordance with the course outlines of record.
  • Provide opportunities for students to be aware of their progress.
  • Submit a copy of the syllabus for each class to the Division Office.

Keep accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and academic progress and submit them to appropriate offices by the published deadlines.


  • Submit endofsession grades, including supporting documentation, and attendance reports by the published deadlines.
